BREAKING The City of Glendale, California — one of the most populous cities in Southern California — says it has terminated its contract with U.S. Homeland Security and ICE.

beyond the thin veneer of concern behind all of these opeds is the much simpler truth that their authors desperately want to describe something that is very obviously their problem (fewer people want to post in the venues they like more) as though it were our problem

1 in 12 Americans live in California. 1 in 35 Americans live in LA County. LA is America

hey where do conservatives think the piles of rusty needles on every corner in downtown la went for these protests. did the crisis actors move them

Over 100 arrested tonight in SF protesting ICE! Head to 425 7th St, San Francisco, CA 94103 for jail support! Please support Bay Area Anti Repression Committee for bail support!

A shop was like "Our pride flag disappeared & we were afraid it was a hateful person", then they played the security footage & it was a large man emphatically singing Sia's "Chandelier" while swinging on the flag, accidentally breaking it, continuing to sing show-must-go-on style, & stumbling away 💀

A joke, told in two images.

I whole-heartedly believe this, to be clear. When you run around playing at being an insurgent, you are, to use the failed Messiah Ken Keysey's words, "being a part of their movie". You can't beat the fascists if you're a part of their movie, because their movie ends with them winning.

We've had more than a decade of American law enforcement's aggressively, militarized responses to street protests regularly causing violence. This is a well documented, well discussed pattern. There is no excuse for any politician/journalist/civil society figure to not acknowledge that reality.

We’ve been in touch with local law enforcement in LA. They have the resources they need to meet the moment, and we stand ready to assist should the need arise.   There is no emergency and the President’s order calling in the National Guard is unnecessary and counterproductive.

We @lawfaremedia.org will hopefully publish something on this soon but fwiw the legal authority invoked is NOT the Insurrection Act — it’s 10 USC 12406, which is much more limited than an Insurrection Act invocation. (Reporters: Chris Mirasola is the expert to talk to about this)

Cannot stress enough that this is a pitiful action by a weak, scared, pathetic group of insecure, wannabe authoritarians, and they should be mocked until the end of time for wanting to bring in the military over some people protesting them at a Home Depot.

There is no bigger story right now than the White House asserting that California residents are in a state "of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."

i approve of this game Drywall Eating Simulator. i too have thought about eating drywall as a result of interacting with society store.steampowered.com/app/3749110/...

Heavily-armed DHS paramilitary forces in military vehicles fired dozens of stun grenades at a crowd of onlookers today in Los Angeles.

Hello, it is the 6th day of Pride and I'm trying to get to 800 paid Patreon subs by the end of the month. Today I woke up with 745. Getting to 800 would mean being able to cover rent, health insurance, and my car payment just off of Patreon. Will you help me to do my critical trans journalism?

note that this completely inverts the public justification for the deportation scheme. they claim they’re deporting criminals, but they deported Kilmar without knowledge of a crime, and now that they supposedly found one they’re bringing him BACK.

This makes me so angry I can barely see straight

If Gen Z really wants to dunk on millennials, they should learn about Foursquare and go around saying stuff like, "I hear you're the mayor of this Panera Bread."

These are concentration camps on US soil and we need to start treating them as such really, really fast.

this!!!! it may be hard for some to accept that the government could be this cruel (especially when they've largely had positive interactions with law enforcement) but federal agents are, in fact, the one terrorizing immigrant communities right now.

In Chicago they also almost arrested a court interpreter.

'Last month...something else happened in academia: Yale-NUS College, a liberal arts college founded by the National University of Singapore and Yale University in 2012, quietly ceased to exist. And with it, thousands of books and DVDs disappeared.'

Well, today wasn't *exactly* what I asked for, but you're all welcome nonetheless. I see now the universe knew everyone needed a test joy and jokes day to get the muscles back in shape.

meanwhile, in Tokyo

once again I must tap my own sign

As someone who only found this out a few months ago I love it when people realize this. And I'm sure monsoon wedding was great but special fondness for people who reference Mississippi Masala because that movie is everything we were told movies couldn't be
