Okay, I think I may know the reason why I did not really care for this movie when I was younger.
It's the music. I loved the music of "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin", but do not care for the music in this movie at all! I would go as far as to say I straight dislike it.

I can give the movie credit for this. It does a wonderful job already at illustrating how bad men are at making good decisions and how often women get dragged down with them.
