Makes me furious.
I’ll be buying four copies of Venba. It’s the least I can do.

16. JezzBall (PC 1992)
Such a simple premise; draw lines and confine bouncing balls in the smallest space. My dad and I had a lot of fun with this one. Especially once we figured out how to bounce the balls off the cursor and draw only one side at a time. A Microsoft Entertainment Pack gem.

With exciting fake reviews like these, and a 6 out of 5 star review, who can resist? Me, lol.

Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, of course, but FPS games didn't really interest me until Goldeneye on the N64, followed by Quake 🚀 and Unreal Tournament.
In Derek Yu's #Spelunky book, he wrote about having access to a bunch of random disks and the impact it had on him. This was one of those games for me.

15. Catacomb Abyss (PC 1992)
Before the '93 video game violence Kontroversy, I remember playing The Catacomb Abyss (catabyss.exe), which was another shareware game from that era.
I played for a short time, but then my parents noticed the 'graphic violence,' and my game was over. I also played...

the SNES port to Rampart, I think I only managed to rent Super Buster Bros. for SNES. I'm also not sure if I even played the original arcade game or just the super sequel.
Ankor Watt is on my bucket list of places to visit, but only due to Illusion of Gaia. I was not very good at Buster Bros.

14. (Super) Buster Bros. (Arcade 1989 / 1990)
Sometime between playing Galaga and Street Fighter II in the arcades, I remember stumbling across a very cool game with elements from Asteroids and Arkanoid. I also remember playing the arcade version of Rampart around this time. Although I picked up...

versions of these games were available, I was entertained by the personalities of these Sierra characters, none of which I recognized then (or now, to be honest).
I never played any of the sequels, but looking at their graphics I imagine they would have lacked the charm of the original. ♥️♠️

13. Hoyle's Official Book of Games: Volume 1 (PC 1989)
For as long as I can remember, I have loved the sound and feel of a deck of cards. I played many games of Hearts and Spades growing up, and it was natural to play digitally as well. Before Microsoft Hearts, and way before mainstream online...

play both the original (House of Horrors) and the sequel (Jungle of Doom!), I always remembered Hugo II as the most difficult and bizarre.
They don't make 'em like this anymore... and that's probably a good thing. Still, it left a mark. I'm grateful for the memories.

12. Hugo II, Whodunit? (PC 1991)
Hugo II was one of the few games I played with my mother. She was a computer programmer in the 80's, and although I never considered her much of a gamer, I only recently learned she had a Pong home machine.
Hugo II was shareware, and although I would go on to...
