don't knock it til you've tried it

yeah but both those theme songs are about warm loving families and the shows were too (less so over time in Family Matters' case but still). I don't think Perfect Strangers was about standing tall on the wings of your dreams

maybe they staged it themselves to get some good press

do they have to start clubbing bald eagles in the street before the symbolism becomes obvious

(i don't actually have a problem with kendrick's skits, it's just a funny thought i had listening to peekaboo)

sounds like another reason to hate texas tbh, move somewhere where you won't get out-danced

sorry, i just hate when people bring up the clear channel memo, it's not a real thing. if you wanna know what killed rock, though, there's a good write-up in this linkin park retrospective grantland.com/features/the...
comment in response to post
The Clear Channel memorandum did nothing, it's a piece of Internet lore blown way out of proportion, a borderline urban legend

also, allowing the players to talk back to the coach. maybe this is supposed to a redemption arc for the coach? he got banned from the NCAA for striking a player, this is him proving he's mellowed out? it feels like a lot of this arc got cut

no, shake shack is "fancy" (overpriced), in-n-out is anti-fancy, white castle stuff

that's a good scene!

i think i'm being entirely fair with my critique, but i hate it when people just take my word for it. "Hoosiers" is a very popular movie
comment in response to post
it's incredibly weird because the movie goes out of its way to not villainize the black team for obvious reasons, but not villainizing them means there's no villain, and thus no edge, and honestly no point

There's some hints at the beginning of the movie that it's going to be basketball's "Friday Night Lights" (the movie), a dark expose of how high school sports totally warp and destroy small towns, and it gradually cops out of that completely
comment in response to post
It is very weird to see a movie try to give baseball's "Field of Dreams"/"The Natural" sepia-toned nostalgia to basketball. The film does everything it can to try and downplay the racial element but it never stops being weird that I'm watching a basketball movie of only white people

I remember going to a protest in 2017 that was literally just yelling at Chuck Schumer to be less gutless. I don't think it worked

imagine posting this on bsky! real "PETA at a barbecue festival" vibes

(The 2020s version of this is fucking live-action Lion King and Lilo & Stitch cleaning up at the box office)

This is also why the '80s were such an aged time for pop culture -- too many Boomers. The music charts were clogged with fogey rock stars and the hit movies were all about being middle-aged (there was way more of this stuff than people remember)

no wait, yes i did, i misspelled Baldrige's name

it's certainly the impression i've gotten, i'd be heartbroken if he wasn't otherwise! the tom hanks of country music
comment in response to post
This video ("Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away") also features cameos from a ton of other country stars and also somehow Michael McDonald, which I choose to believe means that Vince Gill is a great hang (I love this song)

oh right hahahaha, good shit

yeah i've never read the comics but i can still see where they've sanded down the edges sometimes i don't like it when they do that -- like Mark Millar's "Wanted" which turned it from something offensive but interesting into something mildly ugly and boring. but here, i'm betting it was necessary

i'm past s2 so you can just tell me what it was because i'm not sure what you're referring to
