I feel it’s important to consistently and prematurely disabuse them of the pervasive but ultimately futile view that human happiness should be predicated on likes and dislikes…😆

I admittedly don’t know anything about where the costs of audiobooks go, but when I did mine with Penguin I felt fairly compensated. It wasn’t a ton of money, but felt fair. If that’s what audiobook readers are getting, they absolutely SHOULD BE, because that was WORK. 😳

nonsense and cultural/racial violence. The editor understood, and they got rid of the AI audio ARCs for the book. The publisher said it was to make the book more accessible, but I actually think they were throwing a bunch of darts on the wall to see what hit. This missed bigtime. 🧵4 (last)

or technology. 🤷🏽‍♀️ In fact, my co-editor (another woman of color) and I said that we didn’t want any of the anthology stories read by AI for ARCs after this. 🫥 I had never heard of audio ARCs before, and neither had anyone I trust in the industry, and I didn’t see the point, especially with this 🧵3

instances of the word in the story. ☠️☠️☠️ My editor initially agreed with this assessment. After reflection and talking with my co-editor, I said this felt like “writing while Black,” that I was simply writing how Black teens talk, and that I absolutely did not want me story read by this company 🧵2
