By "we can only watch" I mean in regards to elected officials. We can't change who is in office because we have no means to. I will absolutely be out May 3rd protesting as well.

Imagine how many Republican congress members might be replaced right now which might prevent the house and senate from bending the knee to Trump.
comment in response to
post
For example, a mechanism to prevent this sort of thing might be a way to recall congress members. That way when the government starts acting out of the interest of the people, you can more easily and quickly replace congress members to shape it how the citizens actually want it.

They were wrong to think this wouldn't be possible. If they thought it was possible they would have added protections against it. The president acting as a king had protections. It was the 3 branches having equal power. I don't think they considered all 3 working together.

I'd argue it is broken. It's showing us that the founding fathers were wrong in their assumption that the 3 branches of government would regulate each other. Right now, all 3 are colluding and it's a disaster and there's nothing that can be done in the immediate time. We can only watch until midterm

I was for aid to Israel originally, but when they started going too far we should have pulled it all back and demanded they stop or else. No one in the US supports Hamas, but we shouldn't be aiding genocide either. We have a bad history of sticking our noses where they don't belong.
comment in response to

It's a complicated issue. On one hand, the US is obligated to support Israel by treaty. On the other hand, we're also somewhat fresh from the pain of being in Afghanistan for 2 decades of a failed campaign. It can be seen as easier to just ignore it and let it run its course. That's not good though.

That's fine and all, but where exactly is the "center" now due to the right-wing extremism being normalized? Even if you assume the "center" hasn't moved and liberals exist dead on it, the mere fact that liberals want any form of social welfare and democracy already puts you "far left" of the right.
comment in response to

Libs are arguably left, just not as left as what people would consider the "general left". You'd still be left of center. It's like conservatives are right of center but maybe not necessarily right-wing. Left-leaning and right-leaning describes it better than left vs right.

Wealthy elites will just buy certain brands they KNOW is safe because hey, their families or friends probably run the businesses in question. Meanwhile the rest of us will get fucked.

RFK Jr, the one instituting these cuts and disasters in waiting, already says he drinks raw milk. These cuts won't actually impact him even. Wealthy elites will pay for overpriced specialty goods that still follow old guidelines because then they can charge more. www.politico.com/news/2024/12...

e.g.: They overwhelmingly want to get rid of that damn "Obamacare" while also benefiting the most from it. They also complain about rural problems while voting those into power that further harm rural communities. Trump is so anti-farmer it's disgusting yet he won the farmer vote.

Just one set of cuts alongside many others. FDA is losing the ability to ensure quality for many things like pesticides or parasites in food. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...
Milk is only part of the equation. Your comment makes no sense. My point was that Republicans vote against self-interests.
comment in response to

The people making these cuts are unaffected by them because they have the wealth and power to live well. The people who voted for it on the other hand are indeed incredibly stupid.

If he thought South Americans were "Americans" according to his definition, then at least he'd be consistent, but we both know that isn't the case and he's just an idiot who got caught in his stupidity and now he's doubling down. Exactly like Trump and other narcissists do.

"Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent toward, or insurrection against, established authority. Sedition may include any commotion, though not aimed at direct and open violence against the laws."

Completely avoiding the fact that so many of the people involved there went off to commit further crimes and a lot of them domestic violence. The right is violent. Prove me wrong.
Seditious conspiracy is literally insurrection.

So, when actual US citizens get deported to El Salvador and both Trump and Bukele refuse to return them, what is the next administration supposed to do? Just let them rot and die even though they're innocent?

You made the claim that DEI is effectively AA while also not comprehending basic English. Defend it or don't comment. Just say "I don't understand DEI fully to comment" and I'll be like "OK I respect that" and move on.
