I’m 70. I accept a lot to learn still. This government is new and relatively inexperienced. They have a shed load to learn.

I grew up in social housing, state educated, my mother and father both factory workers who literally lived in fear of the workhouse as they had lived memories of it. I know a Labour government would never allow that situation again. Nor would the electorate accept it.

No - that’s pretty cynical thinking. This government will not do that.

Perfection doesn’t exist in any area of life. Rather this man with his gaffs than the mob before him. The optimist in me refuses to be crushed ..

OK I do see your point perhaps he (or chancellor) was forced into concessions perhaps they won’t be enough anyway perhaps he wasn’t up for the gamble of relying on cross party votes perhaps just perhaps he stopped and listened? After all there has been a lot of other “stuff” happening.

I do see where you are coming from my brother struggled to get assistance with a severely disabled grandchild. (Covid got him and his mother)
But looking at the proposed changes in the round - if a number of people can be helped into work in an empathetic way then it does make a better moral case?

It’s an opinion. Not claiming any high ground for any government. OK they’re not 100% right about everything but who is frankly.

It may be a simple opinion and as such I guess it could be considered“facile” but I have neither the knowledge nor the insight to go deeply into this subject .. I will just repeat I prefer a government where it can take into account criticism and act accordingly. That surely cannot be controversial?

It’s an opinion. Not meant to be a breathtakingly enlightened all embracing comment ! And sincerely no reason for you to be quite so rude in response. I prefer that a government stops listens and reacts. What’s so “not very bright” about that ?

I am sure you are right but how realistic is that with so many areas of input and so little time ?
comment in response to

It’s a general comment tbh. Is it not an intelligent option to listen to your back benchers when they have genuine concerns and to try to address those concerns than to press on regardless?

Hopefully most people see the reality it’s the “click bait” taunting media who have become ridiculous.
