There’s now an IG account for the podcast that someone else is generously helping run bc using only my own socials for it is exhausting and annoying 🫠 pls follow for updates there 🔗 www.instagram.com/publichealth...

The Ontario measles outbreak has now hit over 2000 cases and an infant has died. Where tf is public health??

happy pride! reminder: queer people— especially trans, nonbinary, and bisexual people— have a far higher chance of developing disabling symptoms from SARS2 infection. like our queer ancestors before us, true pride is in community care, including preventing viral infection. ventilate, purify, mask 🏳️‍🌈

This is the future they want us all to accept soon, but they’re going to soft launch it by hurting Black communities first, and you know why. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

I had an opportunity to listen to this extremely important podcast episode this morning and I encourage everyone else to listen, too

Looking for a new listen this weekend? 🎧 As measles takes off in Canada, we can look to the SARS outbreak of 2003 and what that experience taught us about how to tackle a public health disaster. Check out the latest episode of Public Health is Dead 💀🩷💚 www.publichealthisdead.com/episodes/how...

Blaming “The Antivaxxers” for measles outbreaks is a wild double standard coming from people who magically believe COVID isn’t harmful and that we can’t do anything about it so they live in make-believe (or glass houses I guess)

🫠 measles is unequivocally airborne and twiddling our thumbs while we wait for a) ppl to be convinced to vaccinate b) vax protection to kick in is a half-assed interruption strategy when we could be cleaning the air, supplying respirators, + doing a major comms campaign www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

This comment period ends today, 5/23, at 11:59 pm ET. Please do comment asap if you believe the government should allow us to get COVID vaccinations. I can't believe we even have to petition them about this, but here we are.

wow

Are all the “but I’m vaccinated and never have to do anything else because I don’t want to” folks going to get on board with respirators and clean air now that vaccines are not available to most in the US? Or leap into the approaching alternative? Who’s to say. Anyway, find your local mask bloc 👀

Awards are bs when people and planet are burning but “Public Health is Dead” is shortlisted in the 2025 International Women’s Podcasting awards and it’s pretty cool this tiny indie show is being recognized for all the effort that goes into it ipwa.evessiocloud.com/2025/en/page...

Almost all media in BC and across Canada were comply uncritical of Bonnie Henry's handling of COVID despite the well documented failures she showed with SARS in Toronto - which also included prematurely declaring the end of the outbreak.

I’ve been so lucky to get to know many wonderful people through the last years including Dr Filiatrault. The 2003 failures in Toronto vs the success in Vancouver really paint the picture of what might have been in 2020. 😢 Excellent podcast, bravo @sharpflower.bsky.social

What's in a quality public health leader? Canada is looking for its new Chief Public Health Officer as the current leader's term is up. Who's up next? “Be Kind, Be Calm, Be Safe" is just a thought-terminating platitude w/o action. We need less of that...

NEW EPISODE out now! What happened when SARS came to Vancouver and what public health can still learn from a 2003 success. This one's about safety at work, the precautionary principle, and what we need in a good public health leader.

ICYMI, last November the podcast "Public Health is Dead" (hosted by @sharpflower.bsky.social) had a terrific convo with @publichealthaction.bsky.social board member Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly about #LongCOVID. Check it out!

Masking should be mandatory in all healthcare settings. Hospitals and doctor’s offices are where most sick people congregate. It’s also the most likely place for more high risk people to be. You shouldn’t have to risk getting sicker or more disabled while trying to get treatment.

COMING SOON. “How to stop an epidemic: When SARS came to the ER.” We had the cheat codes for stopping COVID in a 1200 page report. But we ignored it 🫠. Hear from the ER physician who helped prevent a 2003 SARS outbreak in Vancouver and what public health should’ve learned (+ can still learn)!

I’m writing a piece for @prismreports.org about this admin’s closure of the HHS Long Covid office. I’d love to talk to ppl with LC in the US about your current access to care and treatment. DM me if you can respond to questions via email (response needed by Saturday 4/26 in the AM).

Here’s an interview I did recently with a local outlet about Public Health is Dead. “It seemed like a good time for The Tyee to ask…if she thought her podcast title would be so prophetic.” 😬 New episode coming soon! thetyee.ca/News/2025/04...
