The little cat steps on the wizard's stomach, waking him up. He goes to make waffles with mango jelly and put some fish out for the little cat. As he makes tea, the air fills with the smell of parchment. As he eats breakfast, the wizard debates what move to make next in his interdimensional

This is an interesting insight into conservative leadership's thinking.

Why are grocery stores literally torture?

"Some people, even many progressives, say they want to eliminate poverty but only with conditions. The eliminate-poverty-but position is a delusion. If the goal is to abolish or eliminate poverty, there has to be at least one program that is universal, unconditional, and large enough to live on."

Cats and nephew keep me flexible because I'm always goofing around on the floor.

New pub: now open access! More and more we are recognizing the importance of social science in conservation. As we work to incorporate social science at our fish & wildlife agencies, we wanted to ask: how's it going? Check out our survey findings! conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

one thing I believe is it’s important to celebrate good things 10x as hard and to look for them 10x as often because our animal brains are hard-wired to pay 10x as much attention to bad things; it keeps us alive, but it doesn’t keep us happy happiness has to be fought for, survival will tend itself

🧪 Detailed data viz NYT article, out today, on the extent of funding cuts at the National Science Foundation. This "broken pie chart" is neat & new to me: Powerfully shows the slowdown in new NSF awards across areas. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

BREAKING: A federal judge blocks immigration authorities from revoking international students' legal status nationwide. Follow live updates.

Detained Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil was allowed to hold his one-month-old son for the first time after a federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s efforts to keep the father and infant separated by a plexiglass divider.

EVERYBODY HAVE FUN TONIGHT (Everybody have fun tonight)

Something needs to be clarified: BOYCOTTS DO NOT HAVE END DATES. The boycott against Target is working because it does not have an end date, these large corporations can take a 6 day hit. There must be a demand and a consequence. We cannot not allow people to co-opt terms.

The reductions in funding touch virtually every area of science and seem certain to harm American competitiveness. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I don’t know all the solutions, but I do know that UBI would give millions of people more time and resources to figure things out.

The wizard looks closely at his grimoire and pushes his glasses up his nose.

As a gamer, a movie lover, and a reader, I heckin' LOVE lore.

Epidemiology seems like a vibe.

I know that people love to scream at anyone who dares to try to give people a heads up about how advanced "AI"-type stuff is (which is essential for being able to spot it to avoid getting fooled by it), but I think it's important, actually, to be aware that this is where the tech is currently at.

not American, can't vote, but it seems really weird that the Democratic Party isn't just throwing its funding and resources at AOC and supporting her and her ideas—as well as just dumping money into local news organizations—rather than spending millions on a search for a "Joe Rogan for the left"

Damnit, I want to start a new ACNH island again.

Well, at least we kept sight of what matters most: an octogenarian desperately keeping her claws embedded in her power so that she can continue to play kingmaker resulting in a septuagenarian spending his last six months on this earth being unable to effect any actual change.

JUST IN: Pittsburgh voters have approved a ballot that bans the city from privatizing the local water and sewers system. The measure passed by a very large margin. This was one of my guide of the main races to watch today: boltsmag.org/whats-on-the...

@theonion.com shouldn't be one of the best news sources available, but this is the world we live in. Read @propublica.org and @theonion.com

this is part of why I don’t think his whole thing can be replicated by just any Republican. He had decades of name recognition and people associating him with “winning at business.” it is a monster made of branding which devoured us.

This is why we need Thriving Wages and UBI 👇

Aaanyway. Back in January I recc'd a bunch of novels that deal with A.I. I promise that all the novels actually exist and I have in fact read them. And, for better or worse, I promise that I wrote the text about them. people.com/10-books-to-...
