Beautifully done. Bravo.

3rd Edition! Beautiful! Love a dose of Oldhammer, be it Fantasy or Grim Future.

Very much agreed, though weirdly I’d argue that they still fall for the same tricks at the hands of the GOP/MAGA. Dems seems unable to realise they’re being outplayed.

Yeah, we’re just going to have to agree to disagree here. You lack of reading comprehension is not my problem. Feel free to have the last word, and then I’ll block you - or you can block me, really not fussed either way.

I think my posts are pretty clear in what I was saying, and I’m not sure how you infer what you did from them. If you’re looking for an argument I’m afraid you won’t find it here.

I suppose when I say ‘left’ I’m being kind of lazy - it covers a wide range of liberal/progressive positions that might otherwise disagree on some aspects of policy but are generally of what was historically viewed as a ‘left-wing’ position. But, hardcore communists aside, they all fall for it.
comment in response to post
I’d argue they fall for it. Too many of them are concerned with how they appear and don’t realise/forget that conservative advocates generally won’t give ground in the ideological debate in that way. They don’t see liberal views as something to hear or engage with, but as a position to be defeated.
comment in response to post
As always, conservative grassroots views are presented as some kind of societal tsunami that must be heard and respected, and liberal views are presented as out-of-touch metropolitan elitism that doesn’t listen. And the left falls for it Every Single Time.

My platoon commander had been next to a yank tank platoon in Desert Shield. He said they had bottles of bourbon and rolls of wank mags stuffed up the entire length of the barrel, and swapped them for as many Brit ratpacks as they could get.

…20+ years ago, which was a very different thing, is something that people can’t even agree a definition of. There’s places in the world where just being gay will still get you judicially murdered. Trans rights matter, but they can always stop trying to jump the queue of problems we still have.
comment in response to post
Stonewall have a lot to answer for on this. They had the moral authority to guide the debate and they threw that away in some kind of panic. Gay people have been around as long as humanity, it’s a concept everyone can understand. Trans - in its current form (ie. not the ‘Transsexual’ it was…1/2

I wish I could say the same - and I speak as one who argued with racists and homophobes in the 90’s - but honestly those folk are just…I don’t know what. There’s no debate there. They don’t want to talk, they want the other side to surrender unconditionally. Though I agree with the ‘fuck em’ bit.
comment in response to post
This is why I stay a loooooong way out of the trans debate. Honestly, a few years back as my eldest approached teenage years I figured I might get asked about it and therefore should learn something. I took a look at the various “opinions” online and ran screaming. 90% of them are mental.

Fuck you bitch. Ukr is fighting an actual war for her survival, and you’re here whining about being dead-named. I think we can tell who’s the crybaby here.

This is an important point - the administration isn’t very good at this ‘provocateur’ stuff. That want something to kick off, but they’re going about it badly, and aren’t getting their way. This doesn’t mean they won’t escalate further in order to make it happen, but as you say - it’s clumsy.

I genuinely cannot understand how supporters of Trump read posts like that and still think this is who they want as a leader. Absolutely baffles me.

This. Exactly this. As a born-and-bred South Londoner who is well aware of the fact that the regions and coastal towns desperately need help and regeneration, I’m also shocked and, frankly, offended by the frequent degenerative attitudes that others have towards this town. Pure bigotry.

This was also my first thought.

I was working there last year. Heard about it from former colleagues very quickly. Yaxley-Lennon is lying, that’s all I have to say.

Twitter’s back over that way mate. Don’t stay here on our account.

A phrase, not a word, I know, but to many chefs demo dishes using the words “And we just…” (or similar) Like it’s so fucking simple, the whole thing, start to finish. No mate, a lot of what we do is difficult, intricate, technical work requiring practice and craft. We don’t “just” anything!

That’s apparently why 33rd Armoured was tasked to cover their sector. As opposed to, you know, in the British sector.

General opinion was that 3SA would go through the Dutch and Belgians and pocket up as many BR and WG as they could.
comment in response to post
I do remember talking to some ‘old ‘n bold’ (who even in 93 already talked about their time in Germany like it was some mythical land of legend) that seemed to feel if it’d kicked off the Dutch contingent to their north was not to be relied on for…well, anything.

Yes but not because it’s what people actually believe. Farage’s didn’t noticeably increased his vote share at the locals from the Euro 2019 elections. What’s happened now is that the votes are spread across 5 parties more evenly. 33% under FPTP gets a win. He’s vulnerable, and can be beaten.

Genuine question because I have no idea but I’m intrigued. Would you include Finland, Sweden and Israel in that description, or does - as I suspect - their organisation gain different results because they’ve got a clear idea of what they’re trying to do?

I don’t understand how this isn’t way more of a thing than it is. My experience was early 90’s, when they were (from what I saw) trying to shed manpower at a rate of knots as the govt cashed in the ‘peace dividend’, but now? Serve, get set up for life without crippling debt? It’s a no-brainer.

Go and ask people who actually worked with National Service. They’ll all tell you that a professional, volunteer force is far preferable. To be fair countries like Finland operate a capable conscription system - but then they’re realistic about their defence needs and plan accordingly. We don’t.

The problem is John won’t see rebuttal or argument as something to be engaged with. He wants to tell people he disagrees with that they are wrong, and to feel smug in his arrogance and hubris. He wants to ‘own the libs’, and doesn’t have the capacity to understand why that makes him the problem.

When I see garbage like this, grateful that supporters of Russia have made their allegiance clear. At least we know what kind of scum you are.

It’s true, it’s accurate. He tells stories, he weaves narratives, he paints pictures of a world that people want to believe exists and then proposes ideas to change it back to a world people believe used to exist. Only problem is, neither of those worlds are true.

Peterson uses a lot of big words and long convoluted phraseology and does his best to sound incredibly sincere and educated (which ironically he is), and yet when you unpick his arguments… …there’s nothing there. And red-pill bro’s fall for it Every Single Time.

Also God help you if you see the wrong shape with the wrong sauce. I once had a Tuscan screaming at me because I had the temerity to use something other than orrechiette with broccoli for staff lunch. We were in Farringdon at the time…🤷

That was not an insult. It was a self-deprecating acknowledgement that the Italians really do indeed know what they’re talking about with their own food, and an observation that they argue with each other just as much about it. I’ve spent over 20 years in restaurants, I’ve met a lot of Italians.
comment in response to post
You see, I wanted to make the same point as others have about adding a tiny bit of sugar for balance, then I read this and am reminded why it’s difficult to argue with Italians about some stuff. (I mean, they’re also too busy arguing with each other to argue with me)

Look, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for people living a life that makes them happy, it’s just that some other people are banking serious cash off the back of a load of middle-class mid-life crises.

While holidaying near Cheddar last year we decide to visit Glastonbury Abbey. Very interesting. As for the town itself? Oh my days…it’s amazing how easily people can be ripped off when they want to be. I was genuinely astonished by, well, all of it. The vibe, the prices, the ‘products’ on offer.

You might like this… Finely chop a load of parsley, chervil, chives and mint (not too much parsley), mix with a little ground coriander & sumac Sear tuna, cool, rub with mustard. Roll in the herbs and spices. Wrap tightly in clingfilm, chill, slice, serve with salsa verde.

Stevenson lets himself down - I feel - by only making the same point over and over and over. Yes, he’s right, wealthy inequality IS a driving force behind how fucked up this country is, and it WILL cause untold damage to actual people. But he just says the same thing on repeat…
