Found myself thinking about the World Cup in the US next year and felt a sudden surge of rage that FIFA have destroyed one the greatest pleasures in my life.

Sneak peak at all of America tomorrow for “No Kings Day” 🍊🦅🇺🇸

It's June, but the hot water bottle is back out. @carlowweather.bsky.social

On a dismal run of one great book in the last 5, so badly need a win. Started this late last night and I'm quietly optimistic.

In fairness to Michael Caine this is subtitled 'My Guide to Life', so it is perhaps unfair to criticise it for being filled with his life lessons - but these lessons are ruinously repetitive, so if you're more interested in his life in the movies, choose a different book.

Michael Caine keeping me company for a few days. Just about through the Christmas books now.

Today I fell asleep outdoors, on a rug laid on a freshly cut lawn, with the sun on my face and a gentle breeze brushing over me. I'll now be using this to define one unit of happiness.

Imagine the pitch meeting. 'A completely new kind of detective show..' 'Go on.' 'Turns the genre on its head.' 'I'm intrigued.' 'Are you truly ready for this..?'

This month I will be mostly reading...

One day, Donald will threaten a tariff and the markets won't react... nothing... that's when he'll know the game is up.

Finished this today - an extraordinary read made all the more disturbing by the fact that it's happening all over again. If you haven't already read it, put it on your list.

I hate buying trousers - hate it - the measurements, the trying on, the fuss, the putting back - the picking more - all of it. Yesterday, I bought 3 pairs... and today I am the furthest away from having to buy trousers that I can imagine 😁

Tech bros: ‘We want to take all the data in the entire world to create an unreliable product for a failing business model propped up by billions in venture capital.’ Artists: ‘We want our legal rights over our work to be recognised.’ Tech bros: ‘Jesus, why can’t you people ever be reasonable.’

This French plane, from the 1930s - a Bloch MB 210 - is the weirdest thing. It's like someone built a trendy, Scandinavian office on the front while the pilot was on a smoke break.

How is this sustainable 🙃

I have endured his scurrilous attacks for years. He has sued me for racketeering — and lost. He has unleashed his right-wing army of online trolls. Since his reelection, he has threatened me, defamed me and singled me out by name in two executive orders. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/my-t...

Started this today - found one in Translated Fiction in @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social - it's been bumped up the list due to the blindingly obvious.

Bagged this at Mark's Models in Greenogue for €5 - the instructions have seen better days and the decals are shot - learning about French ace Georges Guynemer, whose plane this is - killed in Belgium in 1917, his body was never recovered.

GW36 starts Saturday

Opinion from the FT's Editorial Board: 'The US and European countries that tout Israel as an ally that shares their values have issued barely a word of condemnation. They should be ashamed of their silence, and stop enabling Netanyahu to act with impunity.' www.ft.com/content/f5fd...

This arrived today - a bit faded - I'd say it's been in a shop window for quite some time.

I'm backing all 133 Cardinals getting one vote in the first round, before they're told to cop on by the head Cardinal and they all agree to vote for the guy with the best 'mass voice'.

Congrats to @hawk4077.bsky.social who takes this year's Shield of Destiny, and commiserations to @artriordan.bsky.social who can't make up the difference with one game left to play.

Sunday's done (GW35) - one game to go

This is TONIGHT!! Please join us for an epic conversation!!

Love this. In his “I Agree” installation Dima Yarovinsky-Yahel took the content from terms of service statements for companies like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Tinder and printed them out on A4 paper with a standard font size for legal contracts to demonstrate the length of these agreements.

No snooker on BBC4 for some reason - but I'm fining out all about the A303.

Sounds like the Housing Tzar is just another exercise in pretending to do something, so they can say they did something, when the stats eventually, and inevitably, show that nothing has changed.

Soon, there will be so little chocolate in Easter Eggs, they will become good for you!

After years of trying to clean the streaks on my laptop screen with wet wipes, I learn that wiping my laptop screen with wet wipes causes irreparable streaks. "You let Dougal clean a laptop screen!!!!"

I remember the days when different cinemas showed different films.

(1/4) It was America and Britain that guaranteed the sovereignty of Ukraine and its borders in return for persuading them to give up their nuclear weapons.

The profit margin on electricity prices can be as high as 92% That means for every $1 you spend on your power, the company is paying 8c in electricity and making 92c profits. Thanks John Key for partly privatising our electricity sector.

Sinners is very good.

My first Colm Toibin book, and I didn't realise it was a sequel to Brooklyn. An odd mixture of melancholy and hope, of doing and drifting, painted in the muted colours of unhappy middle age. And I can't decide if I liked it or not.

The Easter read

Living within your means is hurting the economy.

Just finished. I loved this book – all its different layers and movements. All the different locations and people. And a many headed story that somehow kept itself together and focused.
