At least global, henispheric and regional sea ice indexes are available from @osi-saf.eumetsat.int per today. A new upgraded version 3.0 is soon to be released with full coverage of regional indexes using NSIDCs regional mask on both hemispheres.

Perhaps he is inspired by the Norwegian government (who was visiting the WH yesterday) who has just opened a gigantic area between Iceland and Svalbard for exploration of seabed mining. All scientific advisors in Norway (except sintef) strongly warned against it.
