This #NationalOnionDay & #FoodHistory Friday, let’s talk about the #onion. Ancient Roman women used it in their beauty routine & people in the Middle Ages used it as presents or to pay for rent. Me? I love it in onion soup, onion rings & as base in curries. What’s your favorite onion-based dish?

I just arrived back from my trip to Minnesota. What a great trip. I did my demo and then went to have so many good meals. Thanks to @ICCAchefs for inviting me. Amazing stuff. One of my favorites was at @hi_lo_diner,

Well, well. Look who I bumped into yesterday. I was visiting the original 5-8 Club (for a Juicy Lucy)in Minneapolis with some chums, and there was @chefaz with his own group. So nice to see him in his own environs.

I demo'd a Goan Vindaloo last night. This was made by the people who had become Catholic, by the colonization of the Portuguese and was based on the Portuguese dish which included pork, wine and garlic. I would like to thank Mike for the pictures and RJ Harvey for amazing help with everything.

Tonight, after drinks, I had dinner with my chums from the I.C.C.A @fhimlsmlp in Minneapolis. The chef has a lot of arrows to his bow. But his first appears to be his Moroccan background. These "lamb cigars". Like a pastilla, were the highlight for me.

Sometimes I just need to make wings. This time I made one of my favorites, Siichuan wings. The recipe will be available very soon. #recipes

Last week, I did a Punjabi style butter prawn masala (see post from May 31st). Yesterday, I did a southern Keralan style prawn curry. This time using coconut oil, curry leaves, mustard seeds, tamarind, coconut milk. A totally different taste. But just as good. Recipe soon

What a vile and vicious week for music. Earlier this week, we said goodbye to Sly. Now we have to say goodbye to the writer of my favorite song of all time. "God Only Knows" May Brian Wilson rest in peace and rise in his considerable glory.

A very lovely meal @somerville.slauson last night. This had a jazz club type of feel and excellent service. The food was great too. Particularly these appetizers sliders of fried chicken topped with caviar. A very, very fun time.

I have obviously been in a pasta mood recently. This was @evanfunke restaurant Funke. Agnolotti with sage. Very nice indeed.

Sometimes (well a lot of times) I just need some fantastic Italian dishes. This is in fact, Sardinian food. Malloreddus alla campidanese. A pasta made with durum wheat semolina tossed in a sauce of slow cooked sausages, fennel, tomatoes, pecorino sardo, and saffron. Fantastic stuff.

My mother died 21 years ago today. She died of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I was at a book fair in Chicago and had to get home to London and then to Rotherham. I was completely in a mess. But my colleagues and the airline staff were great. I never made it. May she always rest in peace and rise in glory.

Today is #fishandchip day I am told. As some people may know, I have one of my greatest passions for British fish & chips. All around the country I have my favorites. This is one of my best examples in London @masterssuperfish. If you are in the city do give it a try.
