i am simply asking the press to cover the government sending masked thugs to rip people from their crying children and shipping them to a foreign concentration camp with the same ferocity they cover a trans kid playing jv tennis in sheboygan

Another sparkling IPQ issue nears completion. It’s our 20th (21st if you count our MSC issue), we‘ll be turning five this fall … with great thanks to @siobhandowling.bsky.social Thorsten Kirchhoff @biettetimmons.bsky.social & and the rest of the @ipq.bsky.social @internationalepolitik.de team!

If you're going to shit all over the history of the state at least force all the businesses to have 1916 themed names. A Tex-Mex BBQ restaurant called Flames Connolly, a bakery called The Yeaster Rising. Go the whole hog

We’re wasting the remaining carbon budget on war and AI.

“Everybody keeps calling me, [saying] ‘You know, this would be a great time for #Fugazi to come back’. And I don’t know what they think we’re going to be able to do... But I appreciate the idea that we have superpowers.” Everything Wide Open: An Interview with The Messthetics buff.ly/5mkPNAQ

Did you know that the National Library of Ireland has digitised a first edition copy of Ulysses (Alan Clodd copy, number 120), which can be viewed in full online? Read it here: catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls0...

Yes, we do have a copy of Ulysses. No, we won’t test you on it. Yes, it’s okay to have only read The Dead. It’s Bloomsday - enjoy the complete madness of a day dedicated to an imaginary man, meeting imaginary people, crisscrossing a very real city!!!

Massive #NoKings march in New York City!

An honor to talk with punk legend Kathleen Hanna on the different forms that dissent must take amid ICE raids and the Trump administration's military crackdown on activists. "Protest is for everybody." www.rollingstone.com/culture/cult...

Noem reportedly requesting the military to detain or arrest people, possibly under the “protective power” construct for federal facilities. Also refers to “invasive, violent, insurrectionist mobs that seek to protect invaders and military aged males belonging to identified” FTOs. Very dangerous.

Among the many issues I have with AI (while acknowledging there's little to be done about it): 1. If you cut out the entry level jobs, how do people gain the experience/skills to become mid-level / management level / news editor / literary translator. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/t...

Pretty wild to make your entire case about how immigrants are lawless freeloaders, but having to go to their workplaces and court hearings to arrest them.

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

oh yes please!

NOW— Mass ICE arrests happened/are happening at the Manhattan immigration court at 290 Broadway on the 20th floor. I was just outside the building and an observer came out crying, confirmed they witnessed people getting detained outside courtrooms while families watched and wept.

My old pal Josie is writing a book on the history of Berlin's Tempelhof Airport. And she has a newsletter too...

My take on today's US court tariff ruling. This is an excellent opportunity for the EU and other trading partners to quit preparing packages of concessions, tell Trump to shove it and get on with trading without the US. First 300 clicks free. It being 3.42am here in London, I am now going to bed.

Artemisia Gentileschi joined her father in London to paint 9 canvases for the ceiling of the Queen's House, Greenwich, now in Marlborough House, though her contribution is often dismissed. (From the new book 'The Art of Looking Up') #WomensArt

When so many pedestrians are being killed - real issue is driving in Ireland, speed, lack of attention, massive SUV vehicles in urban areas, where drivers feel safe but everyone else - walkers, runners, children, cyclists are less so. #spéirghorm www.rte.ie/news/leinste...

This looks so good ... and (amazingly) coincides with my child's school trip.

“Experts have been closely watching the variant, which is now dominant in China and is on the rise in parts of Asia. Hong Kong authorities say that rates of COVID-19 in the city have climbed to the worst levels they have seen in at least a year…”

Luckily have it out from the library, so might go to the top of the TBR list...

The hysterical reaction of certain commentators to today’s UK-EU agreement is something to behold. The “surrender” of using e-gates when you go on holiday. The contempt for the “will of the people” of making education abroad more accessible. Rigorous debate is good. This nonsense is a waste of time.

On translated fiction: "These books might help a person keep faith, not just in art, but in us" ... "in these books we find news of the human elsewhere" Max Porter's speech at the International Booker Prize award ceremony (from around 30 mins). www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8vB...

These cars are designed by people. I wonder what these people are thinking. They must be aware that their decisions are directly leading to more people dying and they still do it. Why? I would really like to hear from a car designer and how they clear their conscience.
