The Air-Sol Moyenne Portée (ASMP; lit. 'Medium-Range Air-to-Surface') is a French nuclear-armed air-launched cruise missile manufactured by MBDA France. In French nuclear doctrine, it serves what is referred to as a "pre-strategic" deterrence role. It is intended to be the ultimate "warning shot"

ICE crossed a line in LA

If Andrew Cuomo, a craven politician desperate for power, is putting out statements about ICE like this, that’s both a sign that the Trump administration is losing on immigration and that the pundits who are arguing we need to take a harder stance on immigration to win are full of shit.

"Trump's radical and sweeping attempts to assert presidential authority where he clearly has none present the federal judiciary and the Congress with an opportunity to finally repudiate the decades-old judicial canards that presidents are entitled to 'deference' in matters of national security."

Really kind of fascinating that *LAPD* is issuing statements distancing itself from Trump's ICE raids and supporting protesters, something that feels wildly out of character for the department. A welcome development, but a really odd one.

Cannot stress enough that this is a pitiful action by a weak, scared, pathetic group of insecure, wannabe authoritarians, and they should be mocked until the end of time for wanting to bring in the military over some people protesting them at a Home Depot.

this is so obviously true that i don’t actually think anyone sincerely disagrees besides people who are being willfully unreasonable because they think magic thinking is praxis.

Samantha and I talked about my essay: www.liberalcurrents.com/the-totalita...

What can we learn from the tactics and, more importantly, the strategy pursued by the Civil Rights Movement's leaders and activists? www.liberalcurrents.com/neonliberali...

Neon Liberalism #29: Amidst escalating ICE raids, lawless deportations, and the horror of CECOT, immigration has moved to the center of American politics. Neon Liberalism host Samantha Hancox-Li talks to Liberal Currents editor-in-chief Adam Gurri. www.liberalcurrents.com/neonliberali...

an extremely a propos talk with adam about his recent essay, "the totalitarian logic of immigration controls." as we are seeing quite clearly, rabid anti-immigrant policies inherently lead to increased repression of citizens www.liberalcurrents.com/neonliberali...

Sending 2,000 troops to Los Angeles is the same thing as sending a few dozen random people to a gulag in El Salvador, they're doing this because it's a thing they've always wanted to do, not because of any broader goal or coherent plan. Subordination of strategy to tactical planning.

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets. These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

Me most of the time: this state is horribly mismanaged, we're led by morons, and the nonprofit industrial complex has a veto Me when chuds say California is a shithole:

i truly hate Claremonsters so much

this does offend my sensibilities as an american

i'm going insane! literally outside of immigration, there is little to no support for the idea that it was social issues and not econ policy that lost 2024

Went podcasting about abundance with @mgm.ink and @emoscientist.bsky.social! Tons of fun and hopefully folks learn something. Fortuitously, I've seen a bunch of great abundance takes the last few days! Will flag ones that resonate with the episode when I have time.

😩😩😩

Oh hell yeah @chancephillips.bsky.social

The critique of the Naderite preference for adversarial legalism and redundant proceduralism over state capacity is one of the best and most important ideas in the “abundance” mixed bag

from ye draft of my ABUNDANCE review

Yes, exactly. When will we say we have had enough of this?

Yep, writing and marketing the book with a left-punching orientation alienated the left out of reading it in good faith ("Oh it's all privatization and deregulation"), leaving other left-punchers as the only people liking the book, and they'll put their own spin on its contents. Great job, guys.
