I finally started my first whittling project and it’s pretty fun! I still have all my fingers which is great, they come in handy pretty much all the time.

The amount of times I have to search "<term> meaning" in my job is crazy. Being in software engineering I have become accustomed to hearing a lot of abstract terms but sometimes I realise I honestly have no idea what they actually mean.

No idea how pensioners do so much gardening, I’m only 36 and ready for my coffin after digging all day.

This is bleak reading

If you’ve sent me a text and I didn’t respond please know that I didn’t forget you, you’ll live on in my subconscious as a vague sense of dread forever

It’s crazy just how much exercise improves my mental health and helps me manage my ADHD. Being happy and motivated is a weird state of mind when you’ve lived your entire life being the exact opposite.

I’ve managed to convince my daughter that gen AI isn’t a fact machine but a “this is what I think you want me to say next” machine.

Why must my recurring dreams be sad ones that leave me feeling like I just take up space in this world? Doesn’t make for a great headspace when I wake up.

It almost slipped by me but today I’ve been sober for 9 years. I’m thankful I’m still here, here’s to another 9

I've always been a huge fan of <insert parent company>! www.reuters.com/markets/deal...

Capitalism didn't give us the internet. Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.

Say it after me: Chat GPT is not a search engine. It does not scan the web for information, it just generates statistically likely sentences. You cannot use it a search engine, or as a substitute for searching. Now. Please never use an LLM for information searches ever again.

I get a very heavy Facebook Boomer Memer type of energy from my Discover list, especially seeing as it's filled with Americans posting got 'em type screenshots about Trump and Musk. Not sure how to fix that, I guess just use the platform more?

Our team recently switched back to week long oncall shifts in response to not having enough people on the rota to justify shorter shifts. Week long shifts suck but my god, that feeling when you finally finish and are released for an entire month is what I imagine heroin feels like.

Currently battling broken sleep with coffee and ADHD meds after being paged multiple times last night. If my heart explodes tell the share holders I love them.

Bless my daughter, she thought Good Friday is a bank holiday in Northern Ireland to celebrate the Good Friday Agreement.

Cold and wet Belfast streets are made bearable by the cherry blossom petals falling on the ground. Spring is the tits.

No matter how many times I try I just cannot get back into the swing of using social media. My phone is essentially just a very expensive alarm clock and web browser now.

Did you know that all the generators on the power grid are spinning in sync with each other? The grid has a heartbeat and each and every machine connected to it must follow the rhythm. This includes the machines in your home! Your buzzing fridge compressor is beating in time with the same heart.

I just learned about the term Vibe Coder and I want to punch myself in the face.

Are black holes just macro representations of a cat's insatiable hunger?

Every dental appointment I go to I have to wrestle with the fact that teeth are just exposed bones in our face hole that will rot and fall out unless we regularly visit the mouth-bone doctor.

I don’t want AI to make me 10x more productive, I want it to give me Fridays off.

I moved into production engineering about 4 years ago and I've finally got to the point where I'm investigating/editing kernel settings as part of my day job. I've hit bedrock so to speak. If I can get comfortable down here then I've no need to feel insecure about my abilities.

in slightly-early honour of St Patricks Day, I will once again remind the world of the time Amazon united Ireland (and apologized for the Troubles), still one of my favourite moments on twitter

That burning ball in the sky is the bee’s knees. Slap me in the face with that radiation and watch as I grin.

My cat is an idiot who keeps meowing at me so that must mean I need another slightly more intelligent cat to keep the idiot cat company. We’re going to have to strike the right balance or we will have a Pinky & The Brain situation on our hands.

A great talk

I’ve only been back at the gym 2 weeks and I’m already walking about my home like a barrel-chested moustachioed gentleman from the 1920s. Not sure who I’m trying to impress with these short shorts either.

I am loving the return of sunny days, we've been able to run completely off the power generated by our solar array the past few mornings. Any excess has been used to fill up our batteries and the rest is being exported!

[me at the gym in my 20s] - man, I’m going to be so buff and look great! [me at the gym in my 30s] - man, I hope this helps prevent osteoporosis.

Have we considered just dismantling the internet? Worth a shot, I mean at the very least just take the root DNS servers offline and see what happens?

Ended up getting the worst possible outcome: my hearing is actually really good and because I’ve no other symptoms the specialist doesn’t see the need to investigate further. No longer can I say my hearing is shit because @mariafranciska.bsky.social was in the room when they told me 😩

My cat is an asshole

Got an Ioniq 6 today! Might’ve already scraped the rims 😎 but I’m sure that sound I heard was the curb screaming in pain and nothing to do with my wheels.

Finally seeing an ENT specialist at the hospital today to find out if my unilateral morse code tinnitus is something to be concerned about. My money is on MS but I’m also taking bets for benign tumour and plain hearing loss.

I’ve played Euro Truck Simulator for about 4 hours at this point and I’ve almost convinced myself to leave my programming job and become a trucker.
