I could almost hear Shelby’s 25yo knees creak as he went down for his first #roll at sunset. The soft sand must have felt great on his back after the long ride home. A relaxing earth bath scrubs off the stench of the killpen with good clean dirt. It’s his 1st day of #retirement after a life of work.

Libby swooned as Shelby Mustang arrived at his forever home. He has a large head, dun markings, beautiful soft eyes, and huge dinner-plate feet that will get a good trim. We’re building up his weight with good nutrition. Thank you for helping us give this gentle senior the retirement he deserves!

In mid-May, the gate opens to Sheep’s Rock pine forest that rises to 5000 ft. A stream flows, moss covers old growth, #native bunch grasses abound on rugged terrain with trails worn into the hillside. Now they get to be the #wildhorses they were born to be and teach their young the wild ways.

Wilson, an 18yo #wildhorse from Jackie's Butte #OR. Betrayed twice, he was bailed out of Stroud, then dumped by his owner in another #killpen months later. Terrified of being ridden, blind in 1 eye, he needed #sanctuary. Smiling for cookies is his signature move and puts #smiles on all our faces.

We never breed at #Skydog. We do save pregnant #mares, who get the nutrition, care, and support they need to deliver their #foals. Lacey gave birth 1 year ago to Blossom, who has blossomed into a fabulous #filly. She will soon be released with her mother onto open spaces with a #wildhorse #herd.

Sequoia’s coat gleams as she comes off the meadow next to an old homestead by the creek.This jet black #mare is the sister of Jackson, the first #wildhorse we rescued as a sanctuary. She came to us a few months later with a serious leg injury, but now roams with the big herd.

Love has always loved water. This pretty, flea bitten grey #mare - our 1st ever kill pen save from a feedlot in Texas - adores a #bath. It helps her pass rest time in the barn for a sore tendon issue and gives us one-on-one time with a #wildhorse from the big herd, who welcomes #love and attention.
