Our #Skydog Collector Cards are made by a wonderful #volunteer who pours her heart and time into original collages. We then copy them and make them into cards with photos and stories on each one. A great way to learn about and support our #horses and #donkeys! For sale in our store: bit.ly/4kMLxVw

The #wildhorses of #skydogsanctuary are part of a vibrant #ecosystem that includes many #nativespecies like these #badgers. I love the way they back into their burrows. The look they give us reminds me of Hera & Strongheart before heading to the hills after humans discover their hiding places.

Thanks to our wonderful #donors, these young mustangs, Wren & Elliot, have happy futures ahead of them. We will make sure they have everything they need to live their best lives. As their respective #wildhorse herds in #OR & #WY face annihilation from the BLM, we want to help as many as we can.

Fundraising to bring 2 #wildhorses from a Texas kill pen to Skydog. Wren, an #Oregon palomino #mare, is almost completely blind, shaking with fright. Elliot, a #Wyoming #gelding, will travel with her, calm her fears by being her eyes and companion. Let’s get them home! To donate: bit.ly/3I1ucWT

When we first saw Casper being led around a kill pen before shipping to slaughter, he was tired, defeated, lost and frightened. Today, he is the magnificent #horse you see here, strong, happy, playful, completely honest and kind. This is what our work is all about. #rescuedoneright

“Public lands ranching is no different from mining, drilling, or logging: a government-enabled business that privatizes profit while externalizing ecological cost…Corporate land use paid for by us.” (Western Watersheds Project) @westernwatersheds.bsky.social

“Goliath and Blue Zeus are two huge mustang #stallions who lived hardscrabble lives on the #Wyoming range and now enjoy freedom and plentiful forage on a 9,000-acre #horse #sanctuary in #Oregon. Goliath is 33-years-old while Blue Zeus is 24.” bit.ly/4kWTpU2

Madison is a #wild #mare at #skydogsanctuary, where #BlueZeus and his family were reunited. She is named for the character in #Splash played by #DarylHannah (@dhlovelife.bsky.social) who is a passionate advocate for #wildhorses and all animals, as well as an executive producer of #bluezeusthemovie

URGENT: Protections for #wildhorses and #burros have been stripped from the FY 2026 White House Budget Proposal. Please follow the link to learn more, then tell your Rep & Senators to prohibit killing healthy mustangs and burros and selling them without limits or oversight. bit.ly/4kxY7Yz

From American Wild Horse Conservation: “The Trump Admin’s FY26 budget slashes BLM wild horse funding by 25% and removes the slaughter ban — opening the door to killing 64,000 wild horses and burros in holding. We must stop this before it starts. Tell Congress: Protect our wild herds bit.ly/3FHGkia

2 of our wildest #WY #mares. Hera (right) gave her friend, Strongheart, the strength to go on after the roundup took everything from her, including her will to live. Fiercely independent, Hera chose to stay with Strongheart over being reunited with her former band stallion. #wildhorses

“Welcome Shelby🐎 Rescued by dear friends I thank them for you❤ And all the others too🐎 It took a lifetime for you, Now in a loving Place.. Truly your home with New friends to roam All over this sacred land Called Skydog Sanctuary Angels watching over you” ©effie

I could almost hear Shelby’s 25yo knees creak as he went down for his first #roll at sunset. The soft sand must have felt great on his back after the long ride home. A relaxing earth bath scrubs off the stench of the killpen with good clean dirt. It’s his 1st day of #retirement after a life of work.

Libby swooned as Shelby Mustang arrived at his forever home. He has a large head, dun markings, beautiful soft eyes, and huge dinner-plate feet that will get a good trim. We’re building up his weight with good nutrition. Thank you for helping us give this gentle senior the retirement he deserves!
