Boxing has such a satisfying and specific vocabulary. Bout. Purse. Trunks.

I am so sick of Undertale. I am so sick of Deltarune. The music. The aesthetic. The sound it makes when characters talk. The lore, dear God, the lore. Kill it with fire. Love, the mom of a twelve-year-old kid.

Didn't know about this. thehill.com/homenews/edu...

[“What is that, a boy or a girl?” “A girl.” “How can you tell?” “The sex appeal.” From the New Yorker, July, 1926. By Barbara Shermund, BOTD in 1899.]

Welcome to the public domain, GODS’ MAN (1929) by Lynd Ward. 🖋️📖 A haunting, wordless story told through woodcuts, this early graphic novel follows an artist’s Faustian bargain. Read it here ➡️ archive.org/details/gods... 🧵 #PublicDomain #PublicDomainDay #GraphicNovel #ArtLiterature

I hope folks will read and use the linked piece by @eustace.justshootme.ca about how to create useful alt text. I'm tired of having to spend my time adding alt text to what other people posted in order to be able to share it. If you want to get the word out about something, make it accessible.

Thanks for this, I was definitely thinking about pops c.1900-1910 in response to Miller's idiocy.

Thanks, folks who responded. General take: not general knowledge. If I was just writing this for #TCMParty watchers and @bcdreyer.social, it would be a different story.

General knowledge and audience vibe check: if I say something appeared "in Winchell's column," would you know who/what I was talking about barring further explanation? Trying to figure out if this is a kind of broad kind of American cultural history/knowledge or more esoteric.

I made a lower-carb peach crumble that wasn't great. (The cooked peach part is great, the almond flour crumbles, not so much.) Anyone have a go-to recipe?

@janejoann.bsky.social I've got last week's episode in my podcast app as a new one from this morning

Any early Americanists or Gothic folks who need a fun assignment?

I got to talk to the hilarious Jason Mantzoukas about his chaotic turn this season on Taskmaster, and what it was like being on the inside of one of his favorite shows. Here's part one of our chat (part two coming next week): pvguide.substack.com/p/hed-i-feel...

A particular summer pleasure to sit in one place and read the last 100-some pages of a book straight through. Reminds me of when we only had A/C in my mom's bedroom so I sat still and read all day and at night my sister and I camped out on the orange and black shag carpeting around her water bed.

I don't read contemporary literary fiction for the twists, but Jesus Christ I just got one.

I’ll repeat.

There is actually a very accurate historical document of the post-9/11 vibes. A clipart comic called Get Your War On. Click on through: www.mnftiu.cc/2001/10/09/w...

Dearest humanities friends, I’m sending up the humanities bat signal. Heard a NEH colleague that orgs aren’t submitting requests for close out costs on terminated awards—which they are entitled to!! Here’s what to do: 1/

Darn, wish I had specified Auburn, Alabama!

Handed out waters at the Auburn #NoKings protest, saw friends who are senior citizens and seniors in high school, waved an American flag, and talked with the wife of a former university president.

#1000WordsOfSummer Day 14, 1036 words. Figuring out my main character's deal with profiles that have more info about him. Biggest lesson: other guys who ran the Garden were businessmen, but Mike Jacobs was a showman 😎 Thanks, @jamiattenberg.bsky.social ! See you all next summer!

#1000WordsOfSummer Day 13, words=1131. This started off pretty dismal, typing up quotes for other sections of the book, venting free-writing, but I got to the point where I realized the last kind of source I really needed (long-form profiles of my main guy) and then found them. So I got somewhere.
