There is a chance that Rus agrees to it with the intention of breaking it and blaming Ukr.

He's starting to look pathetic now - a year from now he is still going to be saying the same things about Putin

If he is so keen on mobilisation, why doesn't he lead by example and send his son (or maybe he is worried about his son braking a nail)

They've gone back to thinking he'll do a deal and the tariff thing will be forgotten about.

It is true if you understand that by "we" he means his group of oligarchs/cronies rather than America.

EU can do article 7 remove Hungary's veto and then it doesn't matter what they think about it.

There are 2 things Ukr needs from America - Starlink and ammo for patriot...ok ammo for HIMARs too. The rest can be sourced from Europe.

How exactly would they "facilitate" this without declaring war on Ukraine? I doubt even turning off starlink would help them get anywhere.

BMW were one of the people pushing for the tariffs to be reduced. www.euronews.com/business/202...

Doing much better than Hungary

I kind of thought this was the way things were going to go once Trump won - didn't realise he was actually stupid enough to think a "deal" was somehow possible. Thought he was going to make a token effort and then say Ukr has to buy weapons. It sucks, but there are somethings that only US can provide

ohhhh wow - it was 4d chess all along!!!!

Lets see what he says when China starts targeting US services as well. If China is smart they will selectively target the ones they can easily replace from EU/UK

It's through the Czech intiative.

EU doesn't want to a trade war....but looks like Trump wants them to have one. Maybe they should have just done what China did.

Keep talking about Europe, JD - you're our main weapon against the far right
comment in response to post
Well at least somebody is finally talking about it.

All the rest of the EU need to do is threaten Hungary with loss of veto (let alone actually do it) and they will play ball. Without the veto they are useless to Russia

Need it to stay there for a month or 2.

What hasn't Ukraine done, according to Kellogg?
comment in response to post
It is kind of hard to put a value on it cos they haven't built one since 1993 and don't have any replacement. Also, they are meant to be used for launching nukes, which is why using them intensify to lob cruise missiles at Ukraine has been a bit reckless.

The Times has gone off the rails recently - by far the softest UK newspaper on Trump.

I can't think of a politician in my lifetime who has done more for EU solidarity than J.D. Vance. Take a bow!

secondary sanctions = sanctions on people who buy Russian oil

Doesn't matter who the president is - NYT still the place to go for dodgy "leaks"

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Article 7 (restrict veto rights to this traitor)
comment in response to post
impressive to do that while being "surrounded"
comment in response to post
I think we are getting close to the state where the Europeans can actually do this (which wasn't the case when big promises were made before).
comment in response to post
EU would have to sanction America otherwise they look like total hypocrites. Would create a horrible economic/diplomatic crisis for everybody and the likes of Starmer and Rutte who are trying to keep the "transatlantic partnership" on life support would have to admit defeat.
