Despite the outcry, Duke University still plans to close its huge herbarium, because it doesn't want to spend $25 million to repair the collection's building. Duke's endowment was $11.6 billion as of 2022; it is also the primary beneficiary (32%) of the independent $3.69 billion Duke Endowment.

Just when I was certain @waterpotential.bsky.social couldn’t be any more of an inspiring badass, On The Swamp is published. I can’t wait to finish this book - loving it!

#UrbanWetlands are #BiodiversityHotspots that need to be protected & stewarded w/ thoughtful care. We must do better for the collective good. We need stricter protections for the voiceless who have little chance combating large land altering human machinery.
