Proud to have signed the Stockholm Declaration on Chemistry for the Future. A call to transform chemistry, where science empowers human well-being without degrading our ecosystems. Read it. Share it. Sign it. www.stockholm-declaration.org #SustainableScience #GreenChemistry

I just did this, it took 5 minutes to write something concise and thoughtful, everyone should do it.

It takes one minute.

REMINDER.....REMINDER......REMINDER 3 DAYS LEFT TO COMMENT ON SCHEDULE F 1/n

The entirety of CA’s Central Valley? Where a huge amount of US food is grown! This is not just dangerous for emergent events like wildfires etc, but also the continuity of forecasting to the agricultural sector.

I just created a quick map depicting which portions of the United States are now (as of today) or will imminently be (by early June) without 24/7 local National Weather Service coverage (per Washington Post reporting). #CAwx #CAfire #CAwater #ORwx #AKwx #WYwx #KSwx

As the federal admin is set up to tear Medicaid apart - harming millions of Minnesotans - the House GOP is spending time casting doubt on Medicaid. Rep. Hicks is right - the agreed HHS bill addresses their concerns, but they’re holding it up because they distrust public agencies.

at first you think "ah the dog is passively having fun" and then you realize the dog knows how to steer the skateboard and THEN you learn the dog knows how to PROPEL the skateboard

NEW: We (mostly @noamross.net) launched a website to shine a brighter light on terminated NIH and NSF grants. grant-watch.us It links to our NIH & NSF trackers, grant info submission forms, and other info. We'll also add new analyses soon. Check it out and let us know what else you'd like to see.

Click through to the link, scroll down to audio recording of this full exchange. It’s even worse in his full remarks! 🤯

👋 Hi, we’re Unbreaking, a volunteer-run collective working to document our current moment of institutional collapse and its human costs—as well as the pushback and resilience work already underway. We believe this is critical work for building and retaining political agency.

Americans across races, places, and parties value our freedoms – but Trump, Musk, and MAGA are running a regime of the bullies, for the billionaires.

NIH just early-expired its 1st & only software NOFO: “Building Sustainable Software Tools for Open Science.” Our proposal supported lab automation software infrastructure, with backing from major robotics companies. I guess “sustainable” is too risky now. So much for funding the STEM workforce.

Height of capitulation to corporate tech billionaires to require companies to take down AI porn — after it’s been made and shared and viewed — instead of preventing AI companies from allowing AI porn to be made in the first place.

📈 What's it look like when the Trump admin freezes NIH funding and stops paying its bills? Here's Penn. In March, NIH allegedly froze payments on ~$175M in grants. The plot (via Emma Mairson at Pitt / grant-watch.us) shows the percent of Penn's grants per month for which they received no payments.

“I’m not surprised that nobody turned in their colleagues,” a retired EPA worker said. His former co-workers understood the importance of addressing pollution that disproportionately impacted communities of color, he added. “That’s part of the mission — it has been for decades."

Another great piece breaks down the limitations of using AI in scientific research. Truth is every method or instrument has limits. Know what they over and under emphasize. When the results seem off, ask questions! Results are extraordinary, ask questions! Results are routine, ask questions!

Great new tool to help folks volunteer to speak out and share information with the press (even on background, anonymously) actionnetwork.org/forms/sign-u...

Northwestern has not received any NIH funds since March. No written communication about why or what can be done. Thank you Ben Singer for raising awareness at #ATS2025

Reminder that the vast majority of PhD chemists go to work in industry, not faculty positions. NIH and NSF research grants train the people who convert amazing science into commercial products (like medicines) available to serve the public good!

Pope Leo XIV gets emotional when receiving the Fisherman’s ring at his inauguration event at the Vatican.

Great thread and article. Cutting medicaid is wildly unpopular. *cuts have less than 15% support* **in ALL 435 congressional districts* Keep reminding your congressperson: NO cuts to Medicaid! NO games with our health care!!

Also so much AI Hype is just this. They expect no one to ask the obvious questions. They hope everyone will go along to get along. Let’s not do that.

Appreciate Ben Shindel’s breakdown on the long list of red flags that MIT paper. With decades of r&d experience working at a large materials company, I concur that the implausibilities were evident on page 1. thebsdetector.substack.com/p/ai-materia...

There’s that phrase, “Nothing for us, without us!” In the best of circumstances, if you or your chosen representative are not at the table, no one is benevolently negotiating on your behalf. *we are not in the best of circumstances*

This is a follow up to my post about how to save biomedical research. It responds to one of the most common questions I've gotten about that post. And get into why it's the communities rather than the organizations that are key to focus on. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/a-fol...

Interested in the current, actual air quality near the #RethinkingI94 corridor? You know, in dozens of schools and 1000s of homes? Tough luck, there's only one AQ monitor near it. That's a good starting question when @mndot.mn.gov holds its virtual highway AQ meeting on 5/28 at noon.

🔊 "Certain politicians are wanting to make us believe that we don't belong to each other... And that's just not true." 🔥 Wise words from Pastor Maria Anderson-Lippert. We’re calling on state leadership to change course and protect access to #MinnesotaCare to everyone, regardless of status. #mnleg

These times call for courageous action and solidarity across the US scientific enterprise. Great thread👇

Lake Charles LA & Houston are priority offices w/ critical employment holes. Yep, there’s the heart of US chemical production facilities. NOAA & NWS provide critical forecasts to industry plant mgrs during hurricane season. Precautionary shutdowns are protective strategies that protect people!!

@cenmag.bsky.social would be great to see an investigative piece on this. What is happening to philanthropic funding of scientists? Which competitive grants closing? (Curious about HHMI and others)

Everyone needs & deserves healthcare-no exceptions! The deal #MNLeg leaders made to cut immigrant Minnesotans from MNCare won’t save $ but will mean our neighbors will get sicker & die. Call @governorwalz.mn.gov NOW to tell him to reject this deal 651-291-3400 W/@seiumn.bsky.social @isaiahmn.org

🚨 HAPPENING NOW: Today, we’re with @seiumn.bsky.social and Unidos at the State Capitol for a vigil, calling on state leadership to change course and stand up for dignity and justice for all Minnesotans. #MinnesotaCare Watch here: www.facebook.com/share/v/16ja...
