this is blackpilling as fuck. sorry not sorry that your burrito taxi price went up because people found better jobs that paid more than being a personal chauffeur for your Chipotle. no, food delivery is not a human right, it's a luxury.

A lot of people got very mad at the consequences of the policies that produced these charts like real wage growth and low unemployment/hot labor markets inflationary effects also ending forever wars and ambivalent about drone war ending. the incentives are not great. reaction is lowkey blackpilling

I wrote about how America is likely to start feeling its first broad pain from the DOGE cuts and Trump firings this month as the agencies that help secure our summers—FEMA, NOAA, the National Park Service, and air traffic control—have been especially hard hit: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/prepare-fo...

The notion that cutting thousands of public servants from the Forest Service, and thousands more from the National Park Service and BLM, is somehow going to make this country better off is just lunacy.

It has been an honor to work for USFS R&D for the last 22+ years. So bummed to experience this attack on science intended to improve forest and fire management, communities, and lives. 🔥

Man comes to the US from Lebanon. Starts out delivering pizzas, becomes a Nobel winning neuroscientist. Trump freezes his funding, he gets an email from China offering to move his lab “any city, any university I want" with guaranteed funding for 20 years. What are we doing?

The correlation between being insecure and ostentatiously trying to present yourself as tough remains incredibly strong. www.military.com/daily-news/2...

absolute unit

It's all funny until people start dying. And they will. The work of government is largely invisible until we suffer the harms they help prevent - or need the help they provide in a crisis.

yeah, once more with feeling - it's another busman's holiday. this time with my dad - a Father's Day gift, exploring the Colorado Plateau together again.

I was born in Berkeley, and lived in the family home in Richmond from age 3 to 25. In the 17 years since, I've lived in Alaska, Idaho, Alaska again, Indiana, Alaska again again, Oregon, Colorado, South Dakota, Arizona, and now Nevada. Rootless cosmopolitan, thy name is mine.

"Clearly, America’s national parks have been a golden goose. The question now is whether President Trump will gut them in his effort to slash federal spending." The National Parks are such a good example of how spending cuts save relatively small money at huge cost. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/01/o...

Such a major blow to Russia’s strategic bomber fleet could have been avoided if Moscow had chosen to engage in peace talks, rather than escalating the war and undermining diplomatic efforts initiated by Kyiv, Washington, and Brussels.

there's an interesting angle of FPV drone warfare - when used by people who care, it's allowing incredibly precision targeting with an absolute minimum of civilian casualties. you don't have to carpet-bomb everything to knock out an airfield now - just fly drones straight into parked warplanes.

If Russia manages to lose this war (as opposed to obtaining a catastrophically expensive draw), it will be because of some of the most fucked up uncontrolled materiel attrition in the history of warfare. That, and sucking ass at air warfare, both offensively and defensively.

Let's dive into this a bit. A short and very incomplete thread on US Forest Service research. 1/

If you look up "fumbling the bag" in the dictionary, the example should be David Zaslav going out and saying - unprompted - that TNT didn't need to have the NBA anymore in the lead up to their contract renegotiations with the league.

in training no more.

the future is a slop app sending you a push notification written by its billionaire owners on how your future treats are at risk because of the feckless demand for big government boondoggles like funding your child’s public school or building a public park
