The history books on the climate crisis will have an entire section dedicated to feedback loops. The train has no brakes.

Just looking here in the US, you see the wealthiest individuals producing the same Carbon footprint as thousands of average Americans due to use of private jets, frequent travel, opulent consumerism, multiple massive homes, and other lifestyle choices. And there are thousands of these rich elite.

I think the most damaging EO’s will find themselves struggling in court, which is optimistic as far as our environmental regulations go. But the weakening of regulatory bodies through Chevron Deference repeal, incompetent appointed leadership, and potential congressional action all still pose risks.

Funny and sad, but it reminds me of the scene in the Chernobyl miniseries, where Khomyuk realizes something is wrong from hundreds of miles away because of minor radiation readings. Atmospheric data is not easily suppressed, especially now in the age of the internet and satellite measurements.

Plus factor in lag time from policy change. Avian flu culling surely surged prices, but the preventative effort may be why flocks are maintaining now. Tariff priced goods are just now hitting docks. Deregulatory costs like fishery stock collapse will take years. We won’t prove this thesis in a day.

That’s why there are so many data points to look at. Looking at CPI alone tends to fail to capture the entirety of the economy, especially as experienced by end consumers.

It’s true, inflation rose less than expected last month. In isolation that sounds good, but when coupled with declining consumer confidence and decreased spending, and it could be the price growth slowed due to decreased demand. Data points in isolation aren’t lies, they just aren’t the whole story.

Makes me wonder about the potential balance point of carbon emissions for building and launching dedicated sustainer satellites. Putting a big payload into space to “mend” decaying orbits sounds really cool, but would it be environmentally more damaging than the alternative mass rentry?

This will be a lasting and systemic issue, and years from now we will see many units dealing with incompetence and “rotten to the core” leadership. I truly believe in our nations resilience and ability to bounce back from adversity, but this one will be tough.

There are going to be long lasting impacts on our military readiness, maybe lasting decades. Cultural shifts, as well qualified Officers and NCOs are pushed out under the guise of having been “DEI appointment,” rapid promotion of Hesgeth-like “Yes Men,” and a recruiting drive of Incel Nationalists.

Worth noting too, cost saving through deregulation never benefits the consumer. Instead, companies pocket the difference, the consumer is still paying the same price, but now dealing with damaging externalities. So any “saved money,” by deregulation is almost always fabricated by ignoring damage.

None of these lines of reasoning can coexist with one another under the barest scrutiny, they cannot all simultaneously be true. But whichever he says today is the truth that matters. “We have always been at war with Eastasia, we have always been allies with Eurasia.”
