The same cohort of people who voted for Joh, idolise Trump. And there are lots of Trump supporters in regional Queensland. Without compulsory voting and the Redistribution Commission, Queensland could easily slip back to a gerrymandered backwater. I am sure the right would love to abolish both.

Similar to Australia talking their way out putting the GBR on the endangered list when the reef is repeatedly bleaching from north to south.

I thought the clearing had already been done so what is the point of stopping it now. But clearing was never the issue despite all the hysterical protestations about koalas and bats.

Unfortunately, not everyone votes. Currently the envelopes awaiting processing is 332.

There is far less than that because not everyone ends up voting. The AEC page lists the envelopes awaiting processing as 717 and then what ever arrives in the post tomorrow. So a hard ask to win from here.

I only listened after the election, and I agree it is crap and Tony Barry makes it so.
BC tried to raise the Liberal’s climate change denial but TB, presumably a denier himself, ignored him and waffled on.
BC and Malcolm Farr would be a great team.

I think Grant is a closet Liberal.

So this is where the Liberals are at after their crushing electoral defeat. Still enmeshed in Trumpian anti-science ideology.

There is no sausage party. Voting booths are often based in schools where the fundraising body sells sausages on bread or homemade cakes. Elsewhere it might a charity group raising funds. There is no interference with the voting lines and you usually buy your sausage after voting.

Anything is better than Canavan.

Don’t ask me how I managed to get that weird label on the bottom of my reply. 🤣

And this really is coal and gas country so a coal mine is a real possibility.

I have a property in southern QLD with a proposed wind farm next door. I don’t live there, but there will be some adverse impacts due to the height of the towers. But as I said to the neighbours, it is better than a coal mine. Good luck to the farmers who will make good money after many bad years.

Landholders don’t suffer harm and heartache from the coal and gas industry with a far bigger footprint? They’re an absolute joke.

And of course he is an anti-vaxer.

He is dangerous, cunning, and hides his extreme right agenda in plain site. He appears to follow some old school of Catholicism, adores Trump, hugs koalas and protests against renewables. He has a bit of a cult following here in CQ so he could probably win Landry’s seat.
comment in response to

Taking over from Landry makes perfect sense. His extreme right-wing agenda would be more exposed at the MP level but I guess in CQ that doesn’t matter.
comment in response to

Both he and Landry were chumming up with some local conservation council members protesting about wind farms and frenetically churning out anti-renewable propaganda on social media. I thought it was to help contain the swing against Landry but apparently not.
comment in response to

Yes I thought that too.

Except the voters in CQ where Canavan and Landry hugged koalas and flooded social media with hysterical rants about renewable energy projects. The issue resonated here, perhaps enough to contain the swing against Landry. MC is opportunistic and cunning. He knows how stupid his followers are.

He is all the way with Trump so I guess so.

From what I used to see on Twitter. he follows an odd type of Catholicism and was very concerned about the takeover of a Catholic Hospital in Canberra. So women’s rights wouldn’t high on the agenda for Matty.

What a joke. If the Liberals take the Australian’s advice, they will be in purgatory forever.

After the election, a prominent person with the local conservation group and anti-wind farm advocate, praised Landry as a “staunch, strong leader”.
comment in response to

Canavan is an opportunist and as you say, the hypocrisy is treacle-thick. Along with Landry and some greenies, he was out hugging koalas and protesting wind farms before the election. The anti-renewable push in CQ was so hyped it might have helped contain the swing against Landry.

Canavan leaves Littproud for dead in the race for the far right. He has extreme views on vaccination and climate change, reveres Trump, and follows some weird brand of Catholicism.
Happy to be both an opportunist and hypocrite, he hugs koalas and protests with greenies about wind towers.

Like fellow Senator, Matt Canavan, McGrath is a little short on brainpower. But while Canavan is cunning and has enough personality to sustain a cult following, James is as dull and witless as dishwater.
Better never to be seen nor heard on the ABC or anywhere else ever again.

There has been plenty of hate on the Australian right for a couple of decades but this time they went a little too far with an unpopular leader and were literally trumped.

I am so proud that the voters in the Brisbane seat of Dickson did a Pierre Poilievre and voted out our own Temu Trump and leader of the opposition, Peter Dutton.

Transmission lines can be an issue. The neighbouring windfarm will feed into an existing transmission line, on cleared flat country. So a win, win situation but there are still people screaming about it who are just triggered by wind turbines.
comment in response to

I have a property in southern QLD with a wind farm going in next door with the nearest tower 2.4 km from the residence. The turbines are now very tall so the set back distance should be increased. I am pro wind farm but somewhat concerned about how the height will affect us.
comment in response to

They are clearing ridge lines in CQ and there has been some incursion into koala country. A researcher stated the biggest threat to koalas is wildfire and the clearing acts a fire break. There are issues with micro bats but these can, and should be, be mitigated.
comment in response to
post
And I am not saying some of the proposals don’t have issues but their footprint is small and the LNP hypocrisy is mind blowing.
comment in response to

Here in CQ, home to massive clearing for agriculture, mining, housing, and industry, Matt Canavan is out campaigning for koalas that might be impacted by wind turbines or solar farms. According to Matt, everything else is hunky-dory, even the GBR blasted by back to back bleaching events.
