This shot is taken from the SE side near Packwood Lake during a rare blue-sky day in winter.

This prominence means that pictures can be captured from all around it. Not only does it stand above the surrounding mountains, but the seasons can change the amount of snow/ice/glacier which can significantly change the way the mountain looks.

At 14,411' above sea level Tahoma ranks 17th tallest mountain in the US but with 13,210' of prominence it ranks #1 in the contiguous US and #4 in the US for topographical prominence, in other words, it sticks out and above everything around it.

Better yet, make it illegal to transfer it from USAF to a presidential library

Dry creek falls are on my list! I planned on going there a few weeks ago but ran out of time.

I was watching from home but I’m pretty sure my groan at that announcement was loud enough to be heard in the conference.

Gold Creek Pond is a short drive from I-90 in central Washington state and there are hiking trails both easy (flat, paved trail around the pond) as well as some moderate hiking towards Rampart Falls and Alaska Mountain.

While these falls don't typically have a lot of water, the sheer size makes this an incredible sight to see. This shot, taken during golden hour, captures both drops but the spraybow is very small.

The ice caves are fun to look at, but don’t go inside as they are dangerous and many folks have lost their lives exploring the cave.

An ice cave in October is rare at this altitude of around 2000 feet but it sits almost due north in a steep gully so it doesn’t get much (if any) direct sunlight. Big Four Mountain is quite steep here and a large amount of snow accumulates here due to avalanche activity at the top of the mountain.

Someone must have thought “elevation of privilege” was a DEI term so they gutted the whole agency

Also in this shot is High Steel bridge which is 375 feet above the South Fork Skykomish and ranks #12 among the highest bridges in the US.

This complex series of four separate drops with the bottom at 80' and the one coming in from the left at about 70' was hard to capture and is on my list to go back. I took this shot during a very productive day of waterfall hunting (9 falls and 300+ shots) and didn't give this one enough time.

Where can I sign up to get paid to protest? Asking for a friend…

I probably should have used a slightly faster shutter speed, but I was pressed for time trying to get the shot before the train passed by (which it did about 10 seconds after this shot).

This seasonal waterfall is about 120' tall which in most situations should make it a destination location, however, it's just below the 350' tall Dalton Falls and .25 mile west of the 520' tall Mist falls.

I create an image of my old pc and use that as a virtual machine so when I need to know the name of an app or a setting from the old PC I can just turn on the VM.

The Nisqually River runs right to left while Tahoma Creek is just right of center between Mt Wow (left) and Tumtum Peak (right).

This day stands as one of my favorite trips because the sun lit up the clouds and provided a beautiful spectrum of colors from the golden colors here right before sunset to cotton candy pink once the sun set.

I plan many trips to this area about 10 miles east of Ashford, WA because it's relatively easy to get to from my home and I can get a decent idea of whether I'll get the right weather for alpenglow shots.
