i see my wish yesterday for them to each be given a gun and then locked in a padded room together was actually on point!
comment in response to post
if the united states didn't have so goddamn many guns, i'd say we needed to all be more like this guy, but if someone here tried that they'd be gunned down within 30 seconds. what a hero, good for him!

a dog dying terrified in a house fire hits me just as hard in the heart as a queer indigenous man being shot to death in a hate crime. one is not more or less horrifying to me than the other, nor should it be. we are not more important than animals.

uh, no thanks, i'm good. animals were here way before humans, and will be around long after we drive ourselves to extinction; we are not better than them except in that we have language and opposable thumbs.
comment in response to post
clearly i don't, except that general public opinion seems to suggest that humans are inherently better than animals and that everyone should be vastly more upset about a human being killed than an animal, which is not at all how i feel about the situation.

really don't see the problem here. animals being killed horribly for no good reason and people being killed horribly for no good reason are both very bad, and one is not more bad than the other. animals are not lesser beings than humans.

can you tell me why?

if your house was on fire, would you attempt to save fellow humans first (who understand what's happening and can open doors or windows to escape) or pets (who are terrified and disoriented and lack thumbs with which they could potentially save themselves)?
comment in response to post
that's a matter of opinion, clearly. if you don't think two dogs dying terrified in a house fire is as horrid as someone being shot to death for being gay and/or indigenous, then i feel bad for any pets in your life.
comment in response to post
both are equally terrible, but many people connect more strongly with animals than humans. i'm often one of them.

genuinely do not get this, trump can't prosecute them in any way if they just. don't comply. that's not how this country works, as far as i know

they do! to my knowledge, no visitors are ever allowed in enclosures at wcc, even with the ambassador wolves. they have webcams live on their site and on twitch, and work very hard with cross-fostering pups to keep the population healthy and diverse

i adore DDG and their bangs (discussed on their site), and i use their browser on mobile, and have one of their tracker-stripping email addresses. the tracker blocking across android is also extremely good. my mom uses ecosia, and we both use the vivaldi browser on the computer.
comment in response to post
i have no issues with ddg's results, and the bangs (where you type, for example, !imdb [movie or actor or whatever] and it just goes straight to the search results on imdb for that) are so incredibly useful for me. ecosia is also very good.
comment in response to post
i do the same for browsers, but vivaldi is because i love it and support it, not because i use linux (which i don't). i have enough extensions in vivaldi to be comparable to DDG's anti tracking stuff.
comment in response to post
i've never had trouble finding anything on DDG; if something isn't getting helpful results, i just change my wording a little to be more specific

to my understanding, very little of what everyone calls AI is actual AI, it's just algorithms and bots and intelligently designed programs/apps. the last i heard, in the last couple of years, is that there are like seven people globally who actually understand and are working on true AI.

fortunately, that's not at all what the app does, i looked at their site. it's just a way for a person to save audio and photos based on prompts for memories or stories, and then when that person dies their loved ones can access the stuff wrapped in a chatbot. there is no AI, and it's voluntary.

looking at that site convinced me to not, because that's not at all what the app does. no one's uploading your data after your death, and it's not AI, not really, just a chatbot accessing audio and photos that YOU upload, for your loved ones after your death.

then, when they die, these things are preserved as a database and virtual bot self that loved ones can easily talk to, primarily for a more relatable way to search the database. it's not AI, just an algorithm like everything else.

it's an app that a person can use to create audio recordings and upload photos based on prompts from a chatbot, about memories and life experiences and things.

this was not phrased at all well. i was ready to pile on this app's contact form with everyone else to tell them how stupid this is, but that's not at ALL what the app is, you did it a real disservice.
