Swearing, feminism, lefty, eco, argumentativeness, home education, science, public engagement. Occasional pedantry. And maybe some menopause jokes. I failed to copy over my contacts from the other place. I’ve not ditched you on purpose.

Reminds me of Sue Blackmore’s work on belief in the paranormal. She showed that people who are bad at guessing the odds of things happening, are far more likely to believe in the paranormal. They don’t understand that it’s not that weird a coincidence, or whatever.

You know those guys who murder their entire families because they lost their jobs and can’t face anyone knowing?

I assume that, like chickens, they keep adding eggs until they think there’s enough, and then they will sit on them until they are ready to hatch. Apparently approx three weeks to hatch, then another three weeks until they fledge. I’ll keep you informed.

I think lots of claims about AI are massively overblown. But it will get more powerful over time. And who do we want in charge of it? Unstable, insecure billionaire sociopaths? Or some kind of functioning human democracy? If the latter, we’d better start inventing that.

I’m not sure I see the point of focusing a lot of resources on the genetic side, until we’ve sorted out poverty. Which makes a much bigger difference.

But you have put your finger on the difficulty with co design/co production research. Funders say they want it, but they also want you to specify what research you are going to do on the grant app. I think that is getting better though.

The approach we used was based on what we’d done with Parenting Science Gang. Which was funded via a Wellcome Trust Society Award for public engagement. Not a research award. parentingsciencegang.org.uk

blogs.ed.ac.uk/depressionde... The funding was actually from the department. I think they had some money left from something that needed to be spent by the end of the financial year, so, happily, they paid me to run a small user-led citizen science project.

Please don’t do this, or my local in rural Scotland will be deluged with wankers from London.

Well, who knows. It could develop into a hyperfocus and I could totally make it happen (while everything else in my life languishes), or it could disappear into the to do list, never to be seen again. Let’s roll the dice and see!

Yeah, the, “Oh, maybe it’s not that I’m a shit person?” is hard to shake, isn’t it?

Well, PSG was about £150k, I’m guessing something similar now would be c£200k? No idea about how feasible crowdfunding would be. Did I mention I have ADHD and am perimenopausal?

I have come to the conclusion I do have it and always have had. But symptoms increased so much during menopause that they overwhelmed all my coping strategies.
