Like telling a maga that their policies will literally kill people doesn't faze them at all. So if the one catch you have is "that's not what a good person does" They literally don't care about being "good people," they think being a good person is for suckers.

And that's not to say don't value those things - it's to say...we really can't be surprised when those appeals don't work. They work for us, and it's important to have them on record. But they're not at all effective when used as, like, a direct weapon against maga.

Yes. They're super calloused and see anyone who needs assistance as weak and disposable. "If you can't manage to take care of yourself, why should I have to?" I wish I were exaggeratinggggg but this is stuff I heard all the time growing up surrounded by adults who are now maga

They LOVE infantalizing themselves. Childhood was the last time they were happy - look at the language they use: "daddy's home," comparing *everything* to grade school dynamics, whatever this photo is...they want to be kids again. And also in charge of everything 🙄

Obviously I never thought the prior emails were sincere or anything more than a way to look good. It's just telling that condemning Nazis isn't a way to look good anymore apparently.

People who claim aping Nazis is just edgy can also do one. The only reason people think upsetting people by doing Nazi shit is funny is because they, on some level, agree with Nazis. If you get pleasure from upsetting people who find genocide distressing it's because you are cruel, like a fascist.

In relatively short order we’re going to see MAGA rallies with throngs sieg-heiling Trump, and the excuse will be that it’s a “joke” about the time Elon did a totally innocent Transylvanian cavalry salute (or whatever they come up with) and the silly libs were all triggered.

And once they’ve circled the wagons around it being an old Transylvanian cavalry salute or whatever horseshit they come up with, we’re going to start seeing MAGA folks doing it “ironically” to troll the libs, with Trump’s winking approval.

Now the right's going to play it's usual game of "No, you didn't see that thing you actually witnessed with your own two eyes. In fact, you're being hysterical accusing everyone of being Nazis" gaslighting in the press and on social media.

Can't wait until they do it to something that really matters oh what a thrilling time

For me, Instagram & FB are places where your high school math teacher can see what you're up to. TikTok felt like a fresh slate & connected people based on interests rather than IRL networks like work/school.

The whole appeal of it is that they don't need the truth on their side. Truth is whatever the party says - and knowing which truth is the right truth is just another way of staying in the "in-crowd", which is what they actually care about. Because this is a crisis of insecurity.

I did a major deep dive on him after the BTB episode - I read so many of his posts...like so many 😫...trying to find some coherent explanation for his core assumptions. Massive waste of time. He just says stuff and never closes the loop. And yeah his ideas are also awful.
