I've seen a few people try to argue that this layout is not insane based on it existing in other subway stops. While not entirely wrong, it ignores the frankly massive context that they exist only in stations where an over-platform mezzanine was impractical for either design or convenience reasons🧵

NOW— Mass ICE arrests happened/are happening at the Manhattan immigration court at 290 Broadway on the 20th floor. I was just outside the building and an observer came out crying, confirmed they witnessed people getting detained outside courtrooms while families watched and wept.
