RFK Jr’s ACIP pick, Martin Kulldorff, said one of the most disturbing images from the pandemic was a toddler crying about having to wear a mask. I see toddlers cry about everything all the time, and I found it far more disturbing to see refrigerator trucks full of body bags outside of the hospitals…

I love the the difference in reporting focus. American news focuses on the stock market effect. European news focuses on the lives lost.

First major crash of Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has had shoddy manufacturing for years and responsible for lot of deaths but gov dropped case. Feds won’t care because most/all of the people who died were Indian (air India is a budget airline for international flights, white people don’t usually fly it)

Busy day, zero time for doomscrolling, but I went to #Geriatrics and #PalliativeCare graduation, and a young Palliative care attending had the most well-behaved 3-month old baby I have ever seen- did not make a sound except occasional giggle through a 3 hour ceremony Masters of #communication indeed

Yeah, that's really great, when I get up in the middle of the night to get a bowl of ice cream I want the refrigerator to say "hello, Matt"

Who would have thought that the #Walmart fortune would help fund continued access to vaccines in the US against the federal government

I've seen a bunch of references to this, but I hadn't seen the post itself until now. The menswear guy intentionally, riskily revealed that he's undocumented—that he's a DREAMer—as an act of public solidarity and witness in the face of our current fascist ascendancy.

Interesting, and I completely 💯% agree with either an internal candidate or with extensive #BigTen experience - the #BigTen has unique combination of academics, athletics, and expansive fully owned medical centers very few colleges share, and we can't have newbie now www.bridgemi.com/guest-commen...

The good thing about science is that it’s true no matter what you believe. The bad thing about deadly diseases is they will affect you and your loved ones no matter your level of trust in science. Restoring public trust does not mean killing medicines even for those who still believe in science.

Great Depression the second guaranteed

Patty Murray is my favorite senator and Lauren Underwood is my favorite House member, they don’t play around and take their jobs seriously

We can’t afford cancer centers, HIV vaccines, training grants for people who work on these problems, diabetes or Alzheimer’s or addiction research, but there’s a blank check to the tune of hundreds of millions any time this admin decides to make up a problem to terrorize a city over. Asinine.

People, we are nearing the end of civilization.

She talks about “99% of elite athletes” - is the elite athlete in the room right now? I don’t see Simone Biles in that room, so no?

I counted 7 #InfectiousDisease physicians (2 #Pediatric ID), one Geriatrician, one OBGYN, one med/peds, among others. Anyone want to bet $50 there will be zero ID docs in the new ACIP

I’m glad I am a #Geriatrician because I would be laughing at these names every day if I was around young people more. These could not be any whiter.

It would have been hilarious if I had posted my ancestry results on Twitter, hilarious as in possible threats on my life instead of the support and interesting facts about ancient seafarers I got here

I just want right-wingers to realize how much the term “Third World,” which used to have a formal meaning but does not anymore, looks like it is describing the United States. High poverty: ✅ Economic instability: ✅ Lack of infrastructure: ✅ Former colony: ✅

No access to vaccines for older adults means I have to print out a large stack of state death certificates

i think what’s most dangerous about this belief is that it legitimizes the structural demolition of science the US is carrying out and its underfunding elsewhere

When I was at the Arb today, the little free library on #HuronRiver had Carrie Pilby in it, and I enjoyed the couple of chapters I read, so I rented the movie tonight. Cute NYC coming-of-age dramedy about gifted 19 yo Harvard graduate who hasn’t figured out real life (and boys) yet. Worth a watch

So are India, China, Pakistan, the Philippines and Nigeria “third world” in Charlie’s tiny brain? Because those are the 5 countries US imports the most doctors and nurses from 🙄 Are Charlie and Matt gonna provide the “essential service” of heart surgery instead? m.economictimes.com/nri/work/ind...

new ACIP committee: - COVID-19 virus - Measles virus - Poliovirus - Influenza H5N1 - Varicella/Zoster (Chicken Pox/Shingles) virus - Respiratory Syncytial virus - E. Coli, Pseudomonas, and Clostridium difficile (thrive on extra abx prescribed for unnecessary viral disease) Meet your overlords:

This is a very compelling read and worth your time, even if you don’t care in slightest about menswear

The menswear guy has responded to JD Vance, who suggested he should be deported.

There are 6 tenured, 3 non-tenured members of SACUA, and 2 of 3 non-tenured (research track + lecturer) jobs are high risk of layoff due to federal grant cuts (I’m #3, ok so far cuz they still need someone to see patients, though cutting down my clinical salary more than I wanted to) Trump admin:

Going to the #AnnArbor #NicholsArboretum #PeonyGarden on a random off peak Monday (technically peak ended June 8)- lots of #peonies, very few people, happy misanthrope me 😊 (I didn’t see any noticeable damage from the vandalism, maybe fewer blooms on sides than in center)

For Wolverines into #SpellingBee, there have been at least two winners who are Wolverines, Nupur Lala (1999) who graduated from Michigan in 2007 (now a neurologist at Dartmouth), and Sukanya Roy (2011), who is doing her PhD right now at the Ross School of Business (international relations at Brown)

Circling back, did this down-home #Texas kid ever get an invite to the White House? Or the Texas governor’s mansion for that matter?

Have been on hold for >30 minutes to get my biologic set up for the month, so yeah, the healthcare staffing cuts forced by NIH cuts are going great. (and this is even before #Medicaid is raided)

In the 1960s, the hypertension values for initiating treatment was systolic BP ≥ 160 mmHg or diastolic BP ≥ 95 mmHg, and a systolic pressure of 100 + age was considered an age-adjusted normal value. Today, this would be considered a formula for death and negligence.
