Both parties are muzzled by certain families/individuals staying past their due. Republicans replaced the Bush family with the Trumps when they sought new blood. Can we get democrats to boot out our political regime and do better when picking our leadership replacement? Glad I found your account.

Whataboutism is such a pitiful excuse for the Hunter pardon. Of course in comparison it’s not going to appear as bad as a comparison to Trump. Still, it’s a bad move in the long-run. Precedent-setting has longer implications than just the next guy in charge.

Feeling and spreading shame over hunger and the need for a helping hand is antithetical to Christianity, American patriotism, and efficient capitalism but reality and the truth doesn’t sell like Fox News

I come from rural southern Oklahoma (one of the poorest and most gov-dependent places in this country). I can’t even count how many people I grew up with who performed the most ludicrous Olympian mental gymnastics to not see the reality of voting against their best interest in every way possible.

Which is the case unfortunately. The venn diagram of followers of the teachings of Christianity/conservative family values and people who have a disdain for and disgust of the poor and less fortunate seems to have a larger and larger overlap. Disappointing and saddening.

SNAP’s benefits create more economic activity and +GDP as one of the most consequential benefits our government offers. It should be one of the last programs to cut based on economic concerns before even considering the humanity gained when you let ppl pick how benefits are spent on what they like.

Even better, I feel safe commenting and engaging with the dialogue here. Don't have to feel like a fly on the wall like on X because if you do engage over there, the robots, trolls, and mean folks share hate and rudeness instead of civility.

Totally. Political ads are largely losing their efficacy in communicating to the electorate while the industry grows by billions of dollars. We need to stop funneling billions into something that is not working. We need a solution that doesn't even include ads in the equation.

Interesting article, but I wonder a little deeper about “dem messaging” and how to sell democratic goals. There’s a deeper narrative issue that ads alone cannot remedy. Whether the lack of a dem media machine like the GOP, or salt-of-the-earth genuineness that resonates with working class voters.

A shame everyone here seems to be decent and humane. My popcorn is popped but no show yet

We shouldn’t think about government spending solely as a benefit to some class but as a necessary expense that will benefit the entire community in varying degrees of significance. That cost benefit analysis can’t be measured solely in a two dimension perspective.

Interesting thought process, but I feel this is a hypo that doesn’t acknowledge that most of the eliminated programs are ones where “the high tide lifts all boats” not just “qualified recipients”
