Using the example of electricians, my thought was sure you may have more businesses, but not all electricians would run out to start their own business. There will be some people who do start their own business and most prefer to just do the work. It just means they chose who they get to work for.

Hi Scott. I had an interesting discussion with someone where they mentioned UBI and entrepreneurial starts. He made an interesting point about suddenly having so many of the same that you could create a different issue. EG Electricians all starting their own businesses.

Is this anything like the living Minimum Salary Guarantee concept that Warren Buffet floated a fee years back instead of a living Minimum Wage? I kind of see JG in the same light.

Much better not only from the perspective of humanity but also so much more advanced in terms of research and technology. My belief is that soulutions , or at the very least, vast improvements to much of our current issues, would have been found and in pla e.

1000% this. It's the only way humanity will move forward. Hate to even think how much further ahead we would have been if this was in place even if that was in place starting in the year 2000.

Personally I think governments have slowly been on track to do just that. Now it's accelerating. Wish we could be like the scandinavian countries that provide free education for citizens No wonder those countries keep up with larger ones even though they have smaller populations.

Oh no. Come to think about it the last time something like that happened to me I put on some tunes and rediscovered some of my favorite bands. ...and yes ended up hyperfocued on that and researching them to see what was new with the bands lol

Add in free education and you have the trident to make the world a better place.

That would be awesome. I've always thought we shared more values with the Scandinavian countries and looked to them as a comparator. Still like the American people despite their government, but would never want to miss an opportunity to strengthen ties with the EU.

So Gautier Cole Killian is Canadian or just goes to McGill University?

So pretty much all provinces except Alberta and Saskatchewan are either removing the American liquor or no longer distributing it. I know, I know New Brunswick isn't on there, but their list is coming on Monday. Saskatchewan and Alberta are not doing anything to support Canada in its fight back. Sad

Well he is still trying with his "Common Sense Conservatives" or names like Carbon Tax Carney"... They should replay that video where he is an absolute jerk eating an apple while getting interviewed. That is him in a nutshell.

True. Just would be nice for them to show some concern about all the Alberta business and consumers not just the big oil companies sending their oil down to the US and maybe just show that they are doing something like other provinces.
comment in response to post
Sounds like the sit idly by but please send us some of the tariffs you collect was the gist of the memo.
comment in response to post
Ahh...so basically noth8ng then if I understand it correctly. Just more concern about Oil company profits is that about the gist of it or is there more to it?
comment in response to post
Great question. Maybe they are buying from a company in the US who important from Canada at the contract price. It's the improrter of the raw material that gets stuck with the tariff bill. Worst then for smaller companies that will have to make up for what the big boys aren't paying. Just a guess.

Out of curiosity, what is the Alberta government doing as its contribution to the Candian efforts to fight back against the tariffs? I have read about British Columbia, Ontario Manitoba and Nova Scotia in particular, but I don't see anything from Alberta other than vague words of continued diplomacy

...and hopefully Conservative Party of Canada supportters for that matter. I saw videos of their Pierre Poilievre and see him following the same sort of catch phrases, name calling, etc. He is trying to be the Trump version of Canada. Hopefully people will see the parallels.
comment in response to post
Let's not forget Spain (Frano) and Italy (Mussolini). So many parallels.

Thought those contracts were just for the barely. Even the big boys with have to pay the import tariffs.

My initial thought is it should be dictators. Trump is mainly the figurehead. While Musk is a more visible puppet master, there are others as well who are happy to remain in the background and let Trump have all the attention that he craves.

Doubt that would happen. Even if it did wouldn't VP Vance then take over? I've seen references that he is a devote of Peter Thiel a few times, though don't know this as fact. If that's the case nothing likely would change.

I'd also add an opportunity for corporations to increase prices, regardless if they are truly impacted by tariffs. Richer will just get richer.
comment in response to post
Correct. It will be used as an excuse to raise prices on everything, even home grown products, and will stay that way even if the tariffs are removed.
comment in response to post
...and for businesses to charge more for American products and make more profit at the expense of ordinary citizens. So the government takes tariff and corporations are the ones benefiting

I would have also added free post secondary education. I have this with UBI and universal Healthcare (physical, mental, Dental) as the three things that would propel society to the next level.

It might also be an inner conflict. We pit so much effort and hyperfocus on things we like that we feel we need to do the same for those things we don't. Not only is it harder to start with but then we feel the need to overdo it that leads to burnout.
comment in response to post
Absolutely on most things that aren't of interest. Now when it is...hyperfocus overdrive.

Do you happen to know the per capita number of medical / nursing school spots for students? Curious if they there is more opportunity for prospective students to follow those career paths.
