Modern day corruption in plain site. Where is all this cash going?

Dumb idea. Opens car companies to more litigation about unsafe vehicles. Serious Plaintiffs will fund their own crash tests with large groups of victims. The government sets the standard now and that's a bit of a defense for automakers.

Legal shakedown. Avoided Trump's deposition. That would have featured Trump being asked about his reputation and the collection of his accusers publically known or silenced by payoff settlements.

Agree. The political law of gravity still applies to Trump. Incompetent appointees bring down political leaders in time. MAGA nation can not change the laws of gravity. In time MAGA will crash and burn🔥 because of ignorance and incompetence.

What they really hope to accomplish is changing the rules about disobeying and unlawful order. The Trump people fear the US Military and its possible check on MAGA fever dreams.

Why does Trump need tens of millions of dollars for his swearing in ceremony? That is a better place for the NYT to begin its quest for the truth. That takes to why Tech Bros need to give away money to a criminal.

Pathetic. What he has accomplished is encouraging criminals across the nation to tangle up the legal system. Time magazine ought be ashamed of itself

This is a wild study. Not sure what to make of it

Interesting observation. Perhaps the view of white intellectuals is not well informed by our history of counting black people as fractions of a person? I suspect there is no intentional effort by this author to diminish black people. uncivilized behavior involving guns has been around a long time.

This is how they shake down the vanquished. Trump's prior innaguation expenses was largely secret. Where, oh, where is all this secret slush fund money going?

Sick and anti-American

They have consistently undermined the Democrats and working people in America. Both are bought and paid for by lobbyists. Good riddance to both of these Senators

When the doors of the courthouse in America are closed to ordinary people to resolve their disputes, then citizens will look elsewhere to see redress. Unfortunately, in a nation armed to the teeth, violence is an easy alternative. Teaching non-violence must include civil society alternatives.

Why is the federal government prosecuting this crime? The penalties in Michigan State courts are so much higher? The feds should focus their small band of prosecutors on larger white collar crimes, leaving these cases to very able locals. This prosecution, in politician speak, is performance art.

Republican leaders might free a few senators facing re-election to reject Trump's crazy making. After 2 years of the Trump clown show, there will be lots to sink incumbents. The voters will think incumbents suck. With Trump's crazy there is not enough space for a Senator to make a mark.

Time for an age limit on all leadership positions. Dem Senate leadership is awful communicating to the public. They look and sound lost in arcane rules of procedure. Amy Klobachar can't stop talking about herself long enough to be effective for us! So cruising for another bruising.

That's such a huge amount of money. I'm too old or dumb to sort out why folks spend so much to change their attitude or altitude. I'm happy we don't criminalized pot anymore. The effort to suppress its use was always misguided. But what the heck do I know.

They soon will be pardoned!

So very true. It puts in perspective the chaos we all sense coming.

Lots of 16 year old lifers who have more claim to pardoned than Hunter, Nixon, Manafort, Bannon, Marc Rich, et al. Those cases are mostly state and not federal convictions.

The two actions don't seem to be comparable except both choices are wrong.

Would it change your mind if he actually wanted to be RFK JR. VP selection?

Not sure why the gratuitous swipe at Cooley Law School. Might consider you don't get smarter or become a better lawyer cause you went to Michigan Law School. I've seen plenty of those, including faculty, who could use an extra year or two of guidance.

This coach is not long for the Big 10. He didn't improve anything. He brought his players who and chased off good players. His QB was clearly over his head in the BIG 10. It's the Muddy Waters era again.

Selective prosecution is a "thing" in criminal law. Expect to see the "loose lip" Motions to Dismiss in many federal prosecutions. Selecting targets before an investigation is started or concluded the formula for expensive civil damages lawsuits & outright dismissals of criminal cases by courts.

Trump tarriffs are a massive scheme to extort businesses. The Crony capitalism description implies its not illegal. Trump's scheme is to carve out and exempt his pal's businesses, provided they corruptly return the favor. Unelected co-President Musk will be first man up when the tariffs hit.

The Chinese never had any intention for GM to rule their car market. The Chinese intended to rip off the stupid greedy white guys. GM sold Flint, Mi out for the equivalent of a case of beer and two spare tires and a bottle of cheap counterfeit Rolex Watches.

Interesting case. In Genesee County I brought a case with a police chief who served as a county commissioner. He voted grant monies to his department and set approved tax rates for his employer. Result was to ignore the AG incompatibility ruling.

I definitely get that our government encouraged GM to pursue auto manufacturing in China. GM has long had the most incompetent management in the history of US industry. They made it to the bottom while promoting cars as the "heartbeat of America" with parts from Mexico, Canada, & China.
comment in response to post
And GM helped them out most every step along the way. They hoped to make it big there. Sent them assembly lines from closed Flint, Michigan factories. How did that work out for GM China? All that transfer of capital, equipment made China stronger, and Flint, Michigan unemployed.

If true, this money lockbox couldn't happen to a finer group of greedy people

These rules protect ordinary consumers from floating loans to obscenely rich corporations like Delta. Trump is too ignorant to just blurt out his gift to Delta. Did the Delta CEO ask for this gift and did that CEO arrange for donations to Trump after he was told about the quid (government favor).
