Don't you know, history stopped after victory was accomplished in Europe.

That is a truly delightful tidbit.

Lord hear our prayer

He is also the king of the bad faith argument. Prof. Shaw is so good at not taking the bate for his horrific stances.

Your employer is at least doing real journalism, so keep at it.

So good. Pitch perfect in every possible way.

I had a dog t hat ate half a pound of bakers chocolate. If not for some amazing emergency staff at the vet, he surely would have died. Ever since then all the chocolate goes on the top shelf the moment it gets home.

Does this result in a call from Leo to Thomas with the phrase "drop the hammer on him" in the near future? I wouldn't doubt it.

Her story arc over the 11 seasons was really phenomenal and I think pretty uncommon for a woman in TV in the 70s/early 80s. I wish more people recognized the unicorn it was. I'm really sad to see her pass.

I wonder how much of this is about growing up with movies at home vs having to go to the cinema. I feel like watching movies at home became a big deal in the 80s so the cannon became much more important to folks who grew up then than folks who grew up prior to VHS and cable TV. Just a guess.

I'm hoping this is like the "maybe" I tell my kids when they ask to do something remarkably stupid.

Ours were basically stapled together notebook paper and they were miserable to write on. They were not this fancy at all.

Thankfully my dissertation advisor had his feet more firmly planted on earth and that was its saving grace. But the course work portion was indeed a challenge in ideological ways I didn't expect.

My doctoral advisor had us unironically read Pinker. When I pushed back that it was crap he was genuinely stunned. Granted this was the same guy that assigned Jordan Peterson as "one of the least respected scholars in the world because he speaks truth". (yeah our course work was crap)

leopards, faces, and whatever. i mean i feel for them, but they also voted for it.

It's so weird how the small government folks are so happy to tell everyone what to do and what they're allowed to do.... or sometihng.

I need an emoji that is rage-facepalm

Of course these are the same folks who are always complaining about everyone getting a participation trophy. Though, I suppose, given their particular psychosis it's less of a problem if they get one.

I'm not autistic and I still work from home 4 days a week just to avoid the noise of others.

She has shown herself to have too much class to do such a thing, but it's a fun thought exercise.

And the world hates Americans because....?

That being said, I'm pretty sure nobody is discussing doing away with it. The pastoral focus of Vatican II made it much more scarce and took it off the radar of the higher ups. Of course that doesn't prevent the conspiracy theorists from doing their best to freak out the population that loves it.
comment in response to post
There is a segment of the population that needs things that feel mystical to help them believe. For some conservative Catholics that means mass said in Latin. The fact that they can't understand a phrase makes it seem all the more spiritual. Losing it feels like the loss of their faith.

Just wait for the Turabian Pope. Exactly the same, but not.
comment in response to post
That makes me laugh way more than it should.
comment in response to post
Are they even remotely familiar with the office of Pope? It has _always_ been political.

They got their mineral deal from Ukraine, so now they have a reason to defend it.

Democratic leadership's dogged belief that bringing to a dissertation to a gun fight will end up with a win is mind boggling to me.

When are homeschoolers not losing their shit? As a former public school kid I find their bellyaching tiresome.
comment in response to post
You're probably right until the next act of this shit show kicks off. Whatever that bit of insanity is will likely drive this term lower again.

For a guy who was absent more times than he was present in the Senate, this whole thing is probably breaking his brain.

They're counting on people not doing the math. Also by their logic every fentanyl pill will kill 5 people. I've heard of imaginary numbers, but this brings it to a whole new level
comment in response to post
I mean why would you make a deal with a guy who has a history of not keeping up his end of the deal?
comment in response to post
It's like he enjoys shooting himself in the foot. What the heck!?
comment in response to post
This is classic king/dictator behavior. Display the heads of those you have vanquished in the most public places to inspire fear. Romans and crosses with corpses along the road. It's despicable behavior, but entirely on brand for Miller.

The "i really need the job" vs "i know this is terrible and wouldn't touch it if not for this job" dichotomy can be extremely painful. I hope you find something to enjoy when the day is done.
comment in response to post
To be fair you probably didn't account for the possibility of a POTUS whose only defining characteristic was his narcissism. And up until a few years ago that was a reasonable assumption.

I know right? They keep doing the same thing over and over.
