one of my favorite sentences ever published is in The Collected Works of Billy the Kid when Ondaatje describes Pat Garrett as having “the ability to kill someone on the street walk back and finish a joke” and

Every so often, political media will go out of its way to create a story and then externalize it as though it happened naturally at the hands of some other party. "Continued questions" from whom? "Emerging" from where? This is police shooting-speak.
