Chart showing the 1940-2024 temperature change averaged across all of Alaska. It's as if something has changed. 🤔

Corrupt, gerrymandered government destroys outcomes, Exhibit 34: “Ohio continues to do terribly in nearly every way possible, according to the latest state rankings from the U.S. News & World Report.” t.co/pQcmTx7AnP

“No, I said YOU get your ass onto an assembly line to be a real man,” explained the manicured conservative. “I will keep my comfortable desk job, thank you very much, and demonstrate my masculinity by being a dick to people on the internet.”

In today's Berardelli Bonus...The ongoing flood event in the nation's middle is another example of a historic and very "rare" event. 1000 yr rain events are typically restricted to a very isolated area but @jjrenie.bsky.social map shows just how widespread it was. 1/

How many of the 12 calendar months show a warming trend over the last 75 years? For the vast majority of locations on Earth, the answer is all 12 months. 🔥🔥🔥

“There is no such thing as an ‘illegal immigrant’” My myth-busting piece for The Guardian today arguing that it is factually inaccurate & totally, utterly wrong to say that undocumented people are ‘illegal’ & are automatically ‘criminals’. I bring receipts:

We now have data for 2024, real wage growth was extraordinarily strong at the bottom end of the wage distribution www.epi.org/publication/...

The worlds oldest mountain weather monitoring station is in Germany at Hohenpeissenberg. It's records go back to the mid 1700s and an almost continuous record since the late 1700s. p.s. Yes, human induced climate change is real. Source: www.dwd.de/EN/research/...

Arctic 50-year average temperature change for winter, updated to include 2024-25. Warming in excess of 11ºC (!) in the Barents Sea and Svalbard areas due to mid-winter sea ice loss. No warming since the mid-1970s in eastern Siberia and parts of Greenland. Data from ERA5. #Arctic #ClimateChange

Pete Hegseth has ordered a massive review of DOD computer archives in an attempt to “align” the department with Trump’s directive to eliminate anything related to DEI. What are America's warfighters so afraid of? www.theatlantic.com/newsletters/...

The Dec-Feb 2024-25 period was the second warmest Dec-Feb on record. Just barely behind last year's value. A record low 15% of the globe was cooler than normal.

Only the best people.

Something to bookmark: Potash is essential for modern agriculture. **Eighty percent** of the potash used on American farms comes from mines in *Saskatchewan*. {gift link}

I’ve displayed these flags together since the final week of February 2022 following Russia’s invasion. Today, my Ukrainian neighbor saw me outside and she gave me a hug with tears in her eyes. All I could do was apologize to her for what we all witnessed today.

In a world of filled with JD Vances, be a Zelensky.

Local NWS Anchorage meteorologist just made it past his 1-year probationary period. Still fired.

The U.S. has two tsunami warning centers, both operated by NOAA. Employees were terminated from these centers today. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center covers Hawaiʻi, and now it is less safe to be near the beach. www.tsunami.gov

As I kid I wanted to work as a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Alaska. Thanks to the timing of my birth, through good times and bad, I spent more than more than 30 years doing just that. Today, hundreds of similar dreams were shattered. To all of you, I am so sorry. #NOAA #Alaska

This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

Folks are getting worked up about my recent claim that U.S. National Weather Service costs $3-4 per person/year. Well, some math: NWS budget of ~$1.3 billion, ~160 million tax returns, & ~345 million Americans means ~$8/taxpayer, or (indeed) ~$3.75/person. That's...quite a deal.

An unvaccinated child died of measles in the Texas outbreak. Measles kills 1 in every 1,000 people in developed nations, more where healthcare is scarce. The measles vaccine has never caused a death. It ALSO prevents deaths from measles. Anti-vaccine lies are killing children. 1/

I shared this note with the owner of the Washington Post this morning.

FWIW, some ideas about how the potential loss of U.S. climate/environmental data might impact near-real time Arctic climate science. Latest post from the Alaska and Arctic Climate Newsletter. alaskaclimate.substack.com/p/arctic-cli... #akwx #Arctic #Climate

All politics is economics. If the Supreme Court Citizens United decision grants more political power to those with more money, then to defeat them, it is essential that we target the sources of their wealth. Yes, that means you should sell your Tesla and get off X. open.substack.com/pub/davidrot...

Such hostile nonsense from Americans in power just now. I wish we would listen to people who have suffered for reporting the truth, like Stanislav Aseyev, combat veteran and survivor of a Russian torture camp.

What have we become?
