Alba de Cespedes wrote an incredible book about a post-war Italian family called The Notebook. Only recently translated into English. An absolute gem.

In the last months of my brother’s life, before the cancer took him, United Health tried repeatedly to cancel his health insurance, claiming he hadn’t paid the premium. He had, and every month called to confirm they’d received it. Then had to call to dispute the cancellation. Every month.

It only failed because GOPers who want *more* cuts from those programs wouldn’t support it. It’s only going to get worse from here.

It's a consensus among people who understand plain English.

Are doing a compare and constrast here? Between America's greatest president and its worst?

The investigation of Biden was based on imaginary facts. This would be based on reality. So obviously, you'd investigate the imaginary facts and skip reality.

Carrying the elderly out. Sends the message of what and who they consider worthless but also who they fear. Repost to elevate a hero.

Nope. It’s federal land. But it would be stupid to reopen as a prison. It would require a complete rebuild, not to mention connection to an electrical grid and either building a fresh water pipeline or shipping the water in every day. Incredibly costly, and not secure.

I think the bankruptcy code excludes student debt from what the courts can forgive.

If I find something on Amazon I want or need, I go directly to the website of the business whose product it is, and order from them directly. No more Amazon for me.

This is another good reason why San Franciscans hate “Frisco” as a nickname for our hometown.

Here’s hoping you’re wrong, but unfortunately we all know that literally everything is at risk right now.

They also want them to take their husband's first names. OfFred, for example.

Yep. Because he thinks that means he can send you away to a concentration camp in another country without due process.

I don't know. I have some hope that Roberts and Barrett will see this as a bridge too far...

China buys US Treasury bonds, so we do effectively borrow from them. Otherwise agree that JD is an a$$h0le.

Don't get too excited. It makes Trump happy to see his minions fighting with one another.

Historically, there have been a lot of pro bono lawyers available to immigration clients. In light of what this administration is doing to the large law firms that often supply the pro bono services, I fear these folks will find it very hard to hire a lawyer.

Let me know when Mike Johnson calls for a vote in the House on this.

I quit both Target and Amazon. Rather than ordering a million things online and wasting all that shipping packaging and gas for delivery trucks, we keep a list of what we really need and head into Costco for it once every week or so.

Well, technically, Congress can threaten its funding. The President pretends he can do it (and so far, the GQP congress is letting him), but the law says he can't.
