The game is in *very* early stages of development, but you can follow along starting today FOR FREE, and get a discount on the final PDF whenever it is made available. I'm giddily excited about this, and if this strikes your fancy, claim access here and share it away: capacle.itch.io/mausworn 3/3

But if you do introduce a bit of brightness, it's attention-grabbing. Sometimes this makes you realize you want to steer the setting in a different direction. Sometimes it helps you accentuate the darkness. Sometimes it's a point of texture that keeps your work from being just about one thing.

This isn't a "you have to do the thing." Merely a technique. I think one of the big appeals of grimdark is that it's numbing. There's a comfort in the low droning sound of a world shuffling towards its final conclusion. So you don't need to contrast it.

Everyone else I saw it with loved it, and I think that's good. If a piece of art is bringing joy to other people, it doesn't need to be for me.

I think the art direction was very sharp in a subtle kind of way! The use of different visual styles for elements in the same scene was clever and always looked good. The characters were extremely emotive in both facial expression and posture, and this kept them feeling grounded despite the pace.

Everything I do with this game is like a perfect how-to guide for not developing a system.

It's good as a game designer, I think, to have a worst least competent project.

FM 1 Remake had a really nice art update, even if the original pixels had more character. FM2R had a ton of issues, but I really thought they might pull out of the dive.

If just half of our bluesky followers were Friendly NPC subscribers, we would be able to pay all four full time journalists a living wage, hire another journalist, and increase our contributor pool. Every single subscriber counts. www.rascal.news#/portal/

Was not aware there was a "paywall sometimes" membership level. Signed up.

Valid, but without a message explaining why, they *will* just attribute it to normal userbase churn.

Ugh. So it's on Kickstarter's end whether or not they use the Stripe autodispute. Well, fortunately with their sterling ethical track record re: fintech I'm sure they'll--- I am being handed a note.

I poked around on Kickstarter to see if I could find anything about this, since I know their payment processing is handled through Stripe, but their payment dispute options are just "which card do you allow?" Do you know a way to disable this?

I think it could be worth communicating with drivethru about this. Doesn't have to be instead of leaving the platform, but it at least clarifies to them the cost for the choice. It's easy for them to ignore anything short of direct communication.

Yeah. Treating a ToS like a set of religious commandments rather than a set of practices which can be revised to adapt to bad faith actions (which they've done in the past!) is not a great strategy. It ducks responsibility, but in a way that leaves the problem fully intact.

Gotcha. I only have up to the paywall, which cut off before the quote.

Yeah. The argument that that's an agitation for violence vs. just bog standard american political grousing feels shaky. I get why people were complaining if they were somehow running into it unprepared, but that could be fixed by putting a "Wow! Political Content!" sticker on the page or something.

And like, this works against most platforms. The only real check is the platform curates content and attempts to screen out bad faith attacks.

The same approach to making a case against Rebel Scum could be used to make a case against any piece of media---the key is being loud and persistent and numerous about it.

The discourse of the purpose is time. Time is all we is.

I don't mind people being bothered by stuff. I think it creates discussion, and that discussion can be good to have. Sometimes I'm being a heel, and won't notice until someone points it out. But yeah, to your point it's way easier to just thumbs down or not read something than to do this.

I do not have access to political.png , but the snippet I saw seemed to be suggesting punching nazis. Was it also saying punch republicans?

This feels like a shift in direction for them. But, yeah.

Unless you secure the coveted 'protects but does not bind' status, I suppose.

And like, if you're the type of person to say "well, Rebel Scum crossed a line. It's never okay to approve of violence against nazis," I don't think I can convince you to self-reflect, but I do think I can make a logical case that a brigade friendly platform is bad for everyone.
