Growing TDS west of Huntsville

Whether you get your forecast from an app on your phone, a website or a meteorologist on TV, most of the underlying information comes from the federal government. By @rhersher.bsky.social

An incredible look inside a tornado from our research drone of structures being destroyed in Crowder, Missouri

Via @stormchasertang.bsky.social on Twitter… Gateway Arch webcam captured this tornado as it moved over the west suburbs of St. Louis

Tornado confirmed by a TDS in the St Louis Metro right now #mowx

Autonomous locomotion simply with tubes as limbs, and no brain? 🎈🤖 Yes, through physical synchronization! Our article is out today in Science (@science.org) Article: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... Authors: @albertocomoretto.bsky.social, H.A.H. Schomaker, J.T.B. Overvelde More below 🧪 ⚛️ (1/6)

Five of us at NSSL took the buyout and retired yesterday. It has been an enormous privilege to spend >40 years of my career at such an outstanding research lab. The NWC is a wonderful place to work. In these troubling times, it is fortunate that NSSL has excellent senior managers (DaNa, Pam, Kurt).

What a wonderful video from Cole Vaughn in tribute to all of the many NOAA staff leaving federal service this week. To all of my colleagues, thank you for your service, and I hope you are as proud of NOAA and our work as I am. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si-R...

The incredible Roswell New Mexico tornadic supercell April 26, 2025. 🛸👽🌪️ #nmwx

Quick edit of a tornado NW of Matador, Texas, today. I made a poor repositioning decision earlier and was in catch-up mode the west side of it trying to get back in the lead. But I honestly really like the lighting while the rear flank downdraft was gracious enough to leave it visible. #stormchasing

An incredible view of a dust storm charging south across Mexico.

Yeah, all of this. Gift link. wapo.st/44sg8lC

Neat visualisation/use of threading posts (and nice touch with the blue getting progressively darker)

Quick shots of the Lake City, AR #tornado from Brandon Copic’s live stream a few minutes ago. Unbelievable footage.

Wow...

Quite a few supercells now across AR, northern MS, and western TN that have "that look" in an environment supercell of significant tornadoes. Eek!

I'm not a regular NBA watcher anymore, but holy moly this is wild...

Remarkable to see *a second* damaging tornado just west of Tylertown following nearly the same path as the previous supercell did...

My database has just 7 watches with maxed out tornado probs, two of them are today! date | watch num 2025-03-15 | 46 2025-03-15 | 45 2021-03-25 | 50 2019-05-20 | 199 2017-04-02 | 110 2011-04-27 | 235 2007-05-05 | 232

Intense circulation with a co-locatedTDS and debris ball associated with an ongoing tornado in far southern MS west of Tylertown. #mswx

Radar-confirmed tornado (a TDS) ongoing just south of the LA/MS border east of I55. Conditions are very favorable for significant tornadoes today. #lawx

From Oklahoma State Emergency Operations Center: (9:45 PM Friday) There have been more than 130 fires in 44 counties. The fires are ongoing, and the damage assessment is not complete. OKC Fire reports 19 structure fires, 115 grass fires & 34 downed power lines. Luther/Arcadia video here

Woof...

I mean, we knew conditions today would be bad, supportive of extreme fire conditions. There are more fires in southwestern and southcentral OK that pop in and out of the swIR imagery depending on the thickness of the lofted dust/dirt. Animations show this better, but can't post aniGIFs here.
