US climate scientists need all the help they can get. Including from foul-mouthed comedians! 🤡😱😱 Watch Emmy Award-Winning David Cross team up with Prof Michael Oppenheimer in the US launch of the hit series "Climate Science Translated". #climate #arresteddevelopment #climatescience

And not a single one of us was paid to be there.

Reminds me of the extensive coverage given to the Bharat Jodo yatra by Indian media. </Sarcasm>

Am having to work on some old JS code that used async at a time when JS didn't have async/await at language level. I'd written the "task" macro using sweet.js to help with async code github.com/srikumarks/c... . I still dig the error handling approach in cspjs - sriku.org/blog/2014/10...

Waiting for a Friday launch of an episode is so satisfying.

About a decade or so back, I recall sites like Harvard Business Review writing about "can china really innovate". Surely there is work to be done, but it will happen.

Makes me wonder whether this is giving Canada, Australia and the UK some ideas.

I don't think India needs to "lead" in AI at the world level, but it absolutely MUST lead in AI applied on its own soil and groups like Sarvam.AI have their heart in the right place. Why? Because nobody else is going to do it for India.

I'm cis het male, but rgd "pride" this month, the thing that really moves me is how inspirational non-binary people are, because I believe every adult, at some level / in some aspect, suffers from non self-acceptance ... and here they are, showing how to get out of that to the whole world! 🏳️‍🌈

Why is it that at the back of my mind a voice keeps saying "They aren't ICE agents. They're 'proud boys' people."?

People like him are not morons. They know exactly what they're doing .... which makes them *evil*.

The difference in narratives about crows is interesting. In India, trad Hindus feed crows daily, taking them to be representatives of their ancestors. Crow stories told to children are about their intelligence - prolifically used in Tinkle's "Kalia the crow" series.

Local web apps could work so much better if HTTP over named pipes were a commonly supported thing. Instead of relying on integrated Windows authentication, you could just... spin up a web server on a named pipe and connect a browser to it, allowing only specific local users without explicit auth

I can't listen to my favourite Lion King track 'Be Prepared' (by Jeremy Irons) any more without interpreting (parts of) it as the Trump campaign. "Idiots! There will be a king! *I* will be king. Stick with me and you'll never go hungry again." And the hyenas throng.

Just for nostalgia sake - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macinto...

Oh, shit, this is perfect www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/con...

Too many fun languages to play with.

I'm pleased to announce OxCaml! OxCaml is Jane Street's branch of OCaml. We've given it a new name and a snazzy logo, and done a bunch of work to make it easy for people to try.

Been having much fun over at @eeg.cl.cam.ac.uk and @tarides.com helping Jane Street with this release. Here's the online release party (starring multicore-the-fluffy-camel, our beloved mascot). Blog post incoming soon, but in the meanwhile, enjoy browsing oxcaml.org

“The streets of the C20th were reshaped to suit cars, often at enormous social cost. Entire communities were disrupted. Children lost the ability to roam. People stopped walking. Air pollution soared. A sense of community was lost. Road deaths…became normalised” 👏 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

We’ve had a busted sprinkler for a hot minute, and haven’t yet gotten it repaired. This morning it gave me a reminder that there can still be joy even when things are broken. 🪶 (I believe this is an Anna’s Hummingbird)

A press conference is not expected to be a monkey bath.

Slippery slope theorists are at times right as well.

I thought there was a supreme court order to the effect that no services can be denied on the basis of non possession of aadhaar id?

What a story! Made starting my day a lot brighter. Thank you!

Looks like a good example for the case against predictive optimization - predictive-optimization.cs.princeton.edu

The stanford prison experiment isn't a real effect right? ... because if it were, then people will likely be screwed since that would mean appeal to conscience won't work.

Kinda enjoying hacking in @ziglang.bsky.social . Zig, Julia and Rust occupy some interestingly different design spaces in the prog lang world. What I particularly enjoy about working with a lang is to try & work out the designer's thought process while coding .. & Zig made me go "hmmm" a fair bit.

Mother Nature, we need unprecedented bad weather in Washington DC on Saturday June 14 at 6:30pm ET. Thank you in advance.

Dr Asad Rahmani, whose career as an ornithologist began in 1981, recounted that conservationists had concerns about the project from the start. scroll.in/article/1082... “At that time, we could speak openly against such projects, but now everyone is afraid,” he told Vaishnavi Rathore.

As with things in India like bull dozing, "that's the point, thanks for validating" is what I expect the auths say behind closed doors.
