The politicians are in their back pockets, they make the rules to favor their mates. 😑

i grew up near the Waranga Main Channel in NW Vic and it was astonishing how much water was poured into fields up there during summer. mainly on grain, which was odd, as 50km away we had no irrigation and silly productive crops.

I learned to ski in an irrigation channel, behind an FJ Holden Ute. I didn't know then just how much precious water was diverted away from the environment to make a few more rich people. πŸ˜”

Due to a few dodgy Cotton Barons, many growers now use the term "Food & Fibre" to try and distance themselves from the bad taste Cotton leaves in the public's mouth. It makes a few rich, and it's all exported, so it doesn't do much for the economy either. 😞

The Nats love whipping up the irrigators though - this stuff won’t go away any time soon. Give a person an excuse to feel wronged and a scapegoat to hate and most will grab it with both hands

Yep, similar. Lived on irrigated farms around Stanhope, Lancaster, Ardmona Girgarre. Remember dad doing the irrigating. Water all supplied from Waranga. Swimming in the channels with the leeches.

It really seems like serious inbreeding. Very narrow old gene pool.
