"One famous example is Shrimp Jesus an image of the Christian savior" — needs punctuation. (I'll forgive you the second mention, just about. 😉)

Wow. I was sure (from memory of long drives across northern France) that it was a lot longer. (And I wasn't thinking 400km.) 🙏

The west coast of France is a lot more than 400 miles away from Waterloo. 🤷‍♂️

The Irish journalist Fintan O'Toole, writing about Brexit, said "You cannot free yourself from imaginary oppression". Because most of the problems perceived by the MAGA cult don't actually exist they will never see any improvement, and so they will continue to demand ever-crazier "solutions".

There's an interesting parallel there to my use of DeepL to translate stuff (eg, media reports) in languages that I know well enough to read, but not well enough to enjoy reading 1000 words in a bit of a hurry (German and Spanish). Whereas French and Dutch I can just read at normal speed.

*280. 300 on Bsky. You're welcome. (Seriously, I think more than half of Twitter users think it's 240, and I have no idea why.)

The issue is that the kind of voters that Starmer is attempting to pander to don't regard them as sharing their (i.e., white British) attitudes. "Culturally anglophone" won't cut it, you also have to be white, nominally Christian, and drink beer.

Isn't this pretty much what is actually happening since Brexit? EU citizens have been replaced by those from other parts of the world on working visas, and I imagine a large percentage of those are from Commonwealth countries, not least because of the language requirements for visas.

You mean the 2 in a sea of 4s and 5s? Well, the whole dataset is almost certainly fake, so there's probably not too much point in speculating about points that are at least within the valid range.

Do all Spanish police stations have electrodes just lying around in case someone fancies violating a suspect's rights?
