I'm not here much, but I have released a new Soundminer v6.2 Update video covering most of the main new features in this new version. It's free, about an hour long and anyone who would like can download it at tinyurl.com/ycy4j6h7.

Due to my Dad's health, I've had to step back from some of my gigs, but I am committed to my Directed By Women Viewing Guide, which is now my main source of income. I've set up a 20% off code for new subscribers, plz consider upgrading to paid. Details: oldfilmsflicker.substack.com/p/spring-cle...

Just a little reminder that I built this musical toolbox Synculator - all kinds of helpful calculations for producers and musicians like delay times, MIDI note chart, Hz to bpm, metronome etc. synculator.stevejones.music Completely free to use ♥️

Incredible work from @questlove.bsky.social and his team on “Ladies & Gentlemen…”. I watched the opening montage 3 times in one sitting…once to experience pure waves of emotion and then again (and again) to marvel in the technical prowess demonstrated by the craftspeople involved. Congratulations!

FYI: To support audio community members affected by the wildfires in LA, the MSPE has set up the Los Angeles Wildfire Relief here: 👉 https://www.justgiving.com/page/mpselafirerelief #sounddesign #soundeffects #filmsound #filmmaking #audiopost #postproduction #audiocommunity

Such a great initiative! deadline.com/2025/01/los-...

The Toronto Tonebenders Sound Design Meet-Up, presented by M.P.S.E., was another smashing success! We doubled the people from the previous Toronto Meet-Up. An amazing time was had by all. So great to meet so many new people and also catch up with a lot of old friends. Thanks to all that came out!

TIME EATER will be my first film to get a surround mix. NBD for many but considering 95% of my films are done out of pocket (thanks to the DGC for finding this film!) I had a dang fun ahem TIME with @danipinto.bsky.social doing it at Rolling Pictures.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND was released 47 years ago this week. One of Hollywood’s definitive science fiction movies, and among the most acclaimed of director Steven Spielberg, the story of how it was made might have you playing with your mashed potato… 1/69

This is incredible. Some things that are easy to take away from this: Yes, there are more people in the world than there was 35 years ago. Technology has made it easier to “release” (to use their term) but I wonder if as much music was being *written*/created back then. Probably no way of knowing.

A new report has found there was more music released, per day, in 2024 than in the entire calendar year of 1989. The report by MusicRadar sheds light onto how much the industry has changed over the last 35 years.
