It's a great point but I'm not sure we have enough evidence to claim that Stetson Bennett IV would lose to any one of these people

I had to leave early but they spent the last 10 minutes reading every question and the answers that had been provided in the chat. I asked a question about engagement and timeline since so many people (including myself) were worried about the lack of transparency. We'll see if they reach out. END

Bunch of people have questions about the enrollment projection, I'm more worried about the lack of any reference to racial or economic equity in all this

Clusters with more schools have more representatives, but you hate to see a direct relationship between the clusters with more wealth and the representatives on a task force that will determine which schools close.

Someone mentioned that clusters have different number of representatives in the community task force. According to them: Midtown- 13 Jackson-12 North Atlanta- 11 Washington- 9 Carver- 8 Mays- 6 Not sure about Therrell

The chat is filled with folks who are raising the alarm that many people in the community are not aware that this discussion is happening. If APS is going to engage in something as disruptive as closing several schools they really need to go the extra mile to engage people.

We're watching a video that is part level-setting and part advertisement for the consultant they hired (HPM).

The best deal my buddy @johnbeeler.com could get was $550 per month for his teens

When I found out how much it costs to add a teenager to your car insurance I became bullish on “anything else” as well

10/10 picture to match with the headline. My 8 year-old makes this exact face when I don't let him take a water gun from our toddler.

I'm convinced in Georgia the people love their local schools and want their politicians as far away from said schools as possible lol

"Want more resources for schools? Higher minimum wage? Medicaid expansion? Recognition of the dignity of trans kids? Move to Atlanta and let's bully the state of Georgia into making the world less cruel!"

Sure they get tax breaks to strain the power grid but it's clear to me that AI will make electricity obsolete in 5 years

I met the guy who had been writing about Atlanta sports for the AJC forever and was absolutely gobsmacked that he had aged from his headshot (probably taken 10 years prior)

Could local districts put this into policy as well if our state wasn't accommodating?

What's left is the state of Georgia has begun the process of defunding poorer, Blacker public schools so that wealthier people can get a cheaper private school tuition bill. END
comment in response to post
The fact that Georgia remains one of only six states without specific funding to educate students in poverty, or that we ignore the role of segregation and resource hoarding, or we treat our rural communities like inefficient markets... all play into how schools perform. 5/

Proponents for vouchers would say that they're offering a lifeline to communities failed by public schools while ignoring the responsibility the state has in keeping these schools from failing. 4/

Some data on these schools: 512 schools total, all traditional public schools (charters were excluded from this list for reasons unknown to me, see pic below) 60% of the students in these schools are Black compared to 36% statewide 17% are white (35% statewide) 72% are in poverty (54% statewide) 3/

Students enrolled in schools in the bottom 25% on the state accountability measure will soon be eligible for a $6,500 private school voucher under the assumption that the public schools are failing. gosa.georgia.gov/georgia-prom... 2/
