“I have nothing to say…and I’m saying it!” —John Cage Author of Playing Soldiers In The Dark Old Boy, like Basho, just Queer. Maker of boys. Too literary for anyone’s own good. I am the novelist your mother warned you about.

Ah Tatlin! “The ironic Tatlin”, as my mentor, Guy Davenport said! I’ve based a whole novel on my reaction to the Letatlin ornithopter! Of course, in my novel, the boy’s airbicycle FLIES! Haha. Do you know Malevich? Or Khelbnikov’s poems? Or Osip Mandrlstaam, or his wife’s memoir, Hope Against Hope?

Cage? I met him in November 81. I did an opening performance for the first ever exhibit of Cage’s visual art in Detroit, for a 101st birthday celebration in September 2013, and followed that up with playCAGE: youtu.be/m0bkm9U3aEU?...

I read at Lambda Rising one day after Edmund White…management and clientele thought me the better performer…though I doubt I could have kept up with White’s more subjective performances.

When I visited Morrison’s grave in 1982 there had just been another attempt to steal his body. I followed the graffiti disfiguring the surrounding markers…and as I approached my destination the gendarme guarding Jim’s gravesite cocked his sub machine gun.
