Marchand probably: "Trade me to the Panthers. I feel like I haven't traumatized the Leafs enough."

How is it always the Bruins that beat you guys? Even when you're not playing the Bruins.....

*is not caring in your eyes.

And you've clarified that anything under "willing to risk danger to yourself of others close to you to take a stand" is not caring.
Which is very black or white thinking.
Don't tell me I don't care. My family LIVED THROUGH that. I want fascism all over the world to end. It's literal hell.

I couldn't agree more! I just think bashing people without some level of empathy or understanding isn't good for anyone.

Again, he could very well be wholeheartedly loving Putin. I'll never know.
But just because you say you "have seen no evidence" doesn't mean there isn't, you know where to look, or that there ever will be. If a threat like that were ever levied, we would NEVER know. Putin wouldn't let that leak.

If he was a citizen of a free country like the US and his family were here and he were publicly supporting Trump, I'd say yes fuck him. But his family lives under a dictatorship where even oligarchs have had family disappear for not being loyal enough to Putin.
Dictators crave absolute loyalty.

and we only find out decades later that they did it under duress out of fear and no one knew that bc that was kept under wraps.
It's a CLASSIC part of the authoritarian playbook. Pressure and blackmail of public figures under the cover of silence.

I hate how the Internet only thinks in black and white. You either stand for the right thing, screw the consequences, or you support it fully in your heart. There's no middle ground
Despite the fact that there have been MANY times in history where public figures have publicly supported a dictator

It's easy for us to take a stand in the US/Canada because our right to take a stand is *protected*. We don't risk jail or death or worse for speaking out. So we expect everyone to take that martyr-like stance or denounce them immediately as a sympathizer without considering their situation.

My argument is that I've seen what living under a dictator looks like, and I have no fucking idea what's happening and refuse to pass judgement.
It's easy to say you'd denounce a criminal even if you're risking your family's safety to do so. It's much harder to put your money where your mouth is.

Also yes. If he was getting "you'll show Putin in a good light as a public representative of the Russian people or else", would you or I know? You don't think Putin is capable of that?
comment in response to
post
I'm not claiming that. I'm claiming I have no idea and refuse to pass judgement of a guy not knowing his circumstances especially when I know people in a communist/totalitarian regime who faced similar terrors. Hard for me to judge without knowing all the facts.

So was Artemi Panarin and he had to panic fly home to Russia.
Even if his family were in danger, you and I would never know
I also hate this "celebrities are safe bc Putin would never touch them or they have money to protect their family."
Putin WILL toss you aside once you're not useful anymore.
comment in response to

If you need an example, look at Artemi Panarin. Vocal critic of Putin and he had to panic rush home to Russia bc of credible threats to his family. He went silent on his criticism of Putin after that.

less = danger.
We expect people to sacrifice themselves and their families to "do the right thing" if needed, but our viewpoint would change if the shoe were on our foot.

It's terrifying.
I don't condone Putin or Ovi's support of him. But speaking from experience, I'll never know if Ovi is supporting him because he wants to or because he fears for his family's safety if he doesn't. Coerced support can even look like enthusiastic support if you are afraid anything

and push his PR machine, and has ways of threatening them so that either they are loyal to him or something BAD happens to them or their family. Putin is like a Mafia boss. You don't cross the Mafia boss.
People here in the US have never had to live under that fear (until now). My family did.

I hate Putin as much as the next guy, but here's the thing people in the West won't ever understand: if you speak out against Putin and you have family in Russia or are in Russia, well.........you disappear quick. If you're a celebrity, it's even worse. Putin uses celebs to consolidate his power

Of course. The old pod was always a pleasant memory for me and I'm so glad you guys have found a way to come back together and do it again.
Here's to many more great episodes, and best wishes to you and Jeff. Also please bug him to join Bluesky lol

Also our education system is underfunded but that's not because we aren't paying enough taxes. Our priorities just aren't straight. I'm not sure if that's fiscal conservatism but I do believe there are ways to keep our taxes fairly low while being socially conscious.
comment in response to

Not necessarily. I can believe that we need socially liberal policies while also believing that our government spending is inefficient and wasteful in many ways. Such as military spending. How about we spend less for that overpriced Boeing warplane that we underuse and more for supporting our poor?

I even remember meeting Wysh once. The visible but subtle disappointment on his face when I mentioned #MvsW proved to me how much that show meant to him and Marek.
And today I am celebrating in joy that our boys have come together once again to do #MvsW again.

I was happy when Wysh would come on Sportsnet for the Marek Show but some episodes felt a bit short and the 50 min length feels perfect. Plus Marek leaving SN made me wonder if that was the last of #MvsW.
Today REALLY feels like the boys are back. Years ago, I cried in sadness hearing it was over

Masterton, Game Show Friday, funny stories with Brad May, etc., Littlest Hobo, and all the great guests you guys had. I was mostly a Devils fan then but that show deepened my love of the entire sport.
I cried tears of sadness when the show ended, shocked but grateful for all you guys did.

Welcome back boys!!!! #MvsW changed my high school experience. I was severely bullied and very depressed and not doing well. The show was like a part of my therapy because I could just forget what was troubling me for an hour or two and laugh along with you guys about things like Hologram Bill
