Weird coincidence: when Adolf Hitler joined a political group that later evolved into NSDAP, the number of people involved was so low that they inflated them on paper to big themselves up. According to his membership card, Hitler was no. 555.

The General Strike in 1926 in the UK began when the letter 'T' decided to stop work. It crippled the economy because everyone had to go to work on a ram. Then the vowels walked out in sympathy. The scab letters went their own way and formed the Welsh language.

You should listen to someone trying to trace a family tree in South Wales: 'My great-grandfather was called William Williams, after his father and grandfather, and he was born in Williamstown. Colouring and facial hair unknown, though.' Good luck with your puzzle.

I found out last week that the event was happening. Some people stumbled upon it by accident today, visiting town on a random Sunday afternoon. I did that in 2022, and I've gone up every year since. It's only twenty miles away, and it's brilliant fun. Why wouldn't I want to spend the day there?

And finally, some of the men demonstrated how to maim and kill the enemy with the kukri - the broad-bladed knife that every Gurkha wears as part of his uniform.

After the inspection of troops and speeches from the Nepalese ambassador and the Mayor of Brecon, three of the soldiers' wives performed a traditional dance - barefoot. Always a risky business in the Welsh climate.

We were very lucky: the rain started as the parade was leaving the square. As usual, a most enjoyable and surreal afternoon. If a bunch of Nepalese soldiers in Victorian Scottish-style military uniforms playing a medley of ABBA hits on Western instruments isn't surreal, I don't know what is!

I baled out last night after receiving poor service from the manager. About 50 punters all told - 'good' for an original night, apparently, but in a 300 capacity venue, rather thin. I wrote a sheaf of notes to pass to the owner. I'd love to get involved again, but I can't work with the gatekeeper.

I'm not familiar with the scene in England, but you can count the decent GMVs in the South Wales regions on your fingers. We're lucky: the owner's main business subsided the venue during the Plague Year, when everything was up in the air. But it seems to lack direction or any sense of adventure.
