It’s obvious but worth drawing out what raids of Home Depot’s of all places is about. It’s rounding up people who are really eager for work and for whom there is work, peoples whose labor is in demand. We know this but shows just how far it is from rounding up just the bad guys.

I see that the Bishop of Winona-Rochester has announced and named his quarrel with "the extreme Catholic left." I presume he means the "woke" Catholics. It is embarrassing to explain this but there is no Catholic left. Left and woke aren't ontological categories and a bishop owes his care to...

"AI is not revolutionary. It’s a gimmick." Endorse. My own slightly more specific take is that AI is a Rorschach Test, it discriminates btwn those who do and don't care about content and conclusions. A short attention span tool for short attention span people. hedgehogreview.com/web-features...

America - With all due respect, we’ll pass on becoming your 51st state. #cdnpoli

Earlier today ICE agents hit someone with a car and tear gassed a neighborhood, sparking several fires and disrupting businesses. Immigrants, by contrast, did not.

There is no bigger story right now than the White House asserting that California residents are in a state "of rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States."

Guessing—but my guess is this all has a lot more to do with NEXT Saturday than protests in LA.

If you are National Guard or Active Duty military and you are being ordered to violate the constitutional rights of US citizens then this is the number to the GI Rights Hotline. There is support. You don’t have to go through with it. 877-447-4487

The speed in which we have decayed into an open oligarchic kleptocracy is astounding

Please support this legal defense. You can read the appalling details. A good friend was present when this happened, he created the GoFundMe. I vouch for authenticity and the responsible use of your generous contribution. Thank you. #ThisIsNotAmerica gofund.me/e07f447c

Spicy stuff. The folks at Penzey's have planted a flag for decency.

Struck suddenly by the idea that the crisis in the church and the churches is a crisis of the logos. Christiantity is (pun fully intended) logocentric. In Scripture and in the person of Jesus we are a people of words and the Word. This isn't Hellenism, it precedes Hellas. The beautiful...

Elon has made him look foolish, DOGE was an embarrassing boondoggle. Time to bully the immigrants.

Why look. Privatizing government functions is not an unqualified good.

Permit me a moment of insufferable pride, but two CTU students in our Bernardin Scholars program were published in @americamag.bsky.social today. Their contributions are different, our program has as much breadth as Card Bernardin's ministry. Both are important, timely public theology. 👏👏👏👏👏

Abp Wester is a quiet leader at the Conference but he is a leader. We need this. We need more of this. Bravo. www.americamagazine.org/politics-soc...

HAWLEY: Let's see the Trump chart. You don't think it's a little bit anomalous that Trump has so many more nationwide injunctions against him? KATE SHAW: A very plausible explanation you have to consider is that he's engaged in much more lawless activity than other presidents

I spent $250M to elect Donald Trump and all I got was a massive, outrageous, pork-filled, disgusting abomination and this lousy DOGEFather t-shirt.

Yes, this was very powerful. This woman facing deportation after living 20 years in a Missouri town told me about cleaning an older man's house for free when his wife was sick. She spoke powerfully about her relationships with Trump voters. Now she's in jail and facing removal:

“They certainly look cool,” he said, with visible tension. We drank in long, greedy swallows.”

It's possible the local Democratic organization has gotten a little too excited about a Chicago pope.

"gangs" "in droves" That's unalloyed propaganda. For a Catholic, here is the truth— "deportation...[gives] supreme dishonor to the Creator" and "Prudence makes it possible to make decisions...with realism and a sense of responsibility for the consequences of one's action."

I don't have any opinions about Patti LuPone. Thank you.

This took me longer to write than I'd hoped. My reaction to Pope Leo's prepapal 2023 remarks about Cardinal Bernardin and the consistent ethic was complex ... and, not really about either of those. It's about something else, and it's important. wherepeteris.com/pope-leo-chi...
