Oh lord. Now do I have to shop at WalMart? It is definitely not my favorite store. Please someone get to Target and fix their pathetic response to all of this.

Given the use of the military to detain people in LA is unlawful but done “under color of law,” isn’t this activity also a violation of 18 USC 241 and 242? Section 241 criminalizes a conspiracy to deprive persons of their federal rights. Wouldn’t that reach Hegseth, Bondi, Noem, Miller and others?

Amen. What’s particularly galling is that she never apologizes for the harm she has done to trans kids and other people. It’s all just “who’s going to protect MY RIGHTS?”
She can go eat a bag of dicks.

Yeah. I knew the Chinese Exclusion Acts existed, but didn’t really learn about them until law school. Challenges to the Exclusion Acts created important Supreme Court decisions like Wong Kim Ark which holds individuals born in the US, regardless of their parents' nationality, are U.S. citizens.

For clarity, the OK History requirement is in high school.

So we went to the library and looked it up and I was right. In reading real historical accounts, I also learned that what I was taught in high school was not a particularly complete nor honest rendition of the facts. That was decades ago. I’m glad the facts about the massacre has been revisited

In Oklahoma there is a requirement for a semester of Oklahoma History so we were told about the “Tulsa Race Riot.” In college in a discussion about civil unrest I mentioned Tulsa as one of the worst disturbances and was challenged because no one had ever heard of it and didn’t believe it happened.

I hear you. I went to public schools in Oklahoma. But lucky for me, my Dad took us to the library a lot.

If you want to learn more about the Chinese Exclusion Acts, I highly recommend this PBS American Experience documentary. It explains the history of Asian immigration, the origin of the Exclusionary Acts, and the social and legal challenges to the laws. It’s really good.

This is wonderful. I sense that you, like me, like many here on BlueSky, are angered/devastated/scared by what’s happening. I know you personally have had to endure some extreme nastiness. I want you to know that who you are and what you do is much appreciated by many people. Stay safe, my friend.

I have to wonder if this was pushed this weekend in part to ensure protests in DC next weekend which will be used to justify federalizing the police there and taking control of the DC government.

I agree we are better off with a strong, independent WaPo - I just don’t know what to do to move it in that direction.
